Seo Close...
... yet O-So (ria) far.
What's scary is, by comparison, that horrible play on words works better than the Dodgers bullpen at the moment.
A more than solid start by Jae Seo (6 IP, 5H, 1ER) was blown to smithereens by a trio that provided little relief, literally or figuratively. In the course of an 11-5 loss to the Padres, Tim Hamulack gave up three runs in the 7th, (normally) ace closer Danys Baez was smacked for a pair in the 9th (although the game was basically out of reach) and Franquelis Osoria surrendered 5 without even recording an out.
Aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?
I'm no Tommy Lasorda, but something about this strikes me as a poor recipe for winning. No wonder manager Grady Little called a meeting after the game, their first of such kind this season. The purpose? "To instill a little confidence in them," said Little. And according to infielder Olmedo Saenz, the team still has plenty of it. "Nobody's frustrated here. How can you be frustrated on May 3rd?" (Easy for him to say. He pinch hit a dinger in the 7th.) He also provided some advice for dealing with the loss. "You gotta flush it."
On a positive note, recent call up Andre Ethier hit his first big league HR, a ninth inning shot over the right center wall. Ethier, pleasantly surprised to find out the ball was retrieved for him, was all smiles while donning a Las Vegas 51's T-Shirt. "That's to remind me where I came from." Keep up that kind of play, and maybe he won't have to go back.
Also, Ricky Ledee's groin is going to be reevaluated by a swarm of doctors. But for now, the chances of surgery being required are considered minimal.

Good morning AK/BK!!
So last night I saw my not-so-favorite-catcher Navarro hit a HR, saw Seo doing pretty good and I dozed off. No worries I woke up at midnight and watched the FF replay. Boooo!! That was hard to watch at the end. It was nice to see the HR by Ethier as well.. but geeeeeezzzzzzzzz the pitching is killing me!!!!
Now Odalis went to the Dominican to be with his mother while he leaves behind a loss and an ERA of 6.90! WHAT!!!! Aaaaahhhh!!!... I saw an earlier post that asked if Honeycutt could be at fault, could he? I dont know. I do think that Little might be waiting a little too long to take guys out. I think he hopes to have the starters get to 7 IP but some seem to only have about 5 in them. Anyways if I get really insightful during the day, I'll be back. Glad the blog is catching on. ---MrsBlue

To quote a LoLo post from yesterday (I am trying my best to do a “Leon” impersonation):
“Our bullpen on the other hand…YIKES!!!”
“Is it me or does Honeycutt suck as a pitching coach?”
I know, I know. I’m not exactly presenting breaking news. Our bullpen sucks big time. We are in for a long season unless our offense starts putting up 14 runs a game. Moving Odalis to the bullpen will make things worse!! Does anyone actually think he will put forth any effort while he’s out there? Maybe they should video tape the session where they physically have to drag him to the pen by his fro while he kicks and bitches the whole way there. I wouldn’t be surprised if he suddenly “develops” back spasms after hearing the news of his demotion. Hello 60-day DL and NO TRADE VALUE!!! What a waste of human cow flop!!
No one is going to give us middle relief unless we give them the “farm” (Bills, LaRoche, Guzman; take your pick).
AK/BK,
Did you guys hear about the “animated” conversation McCourt had with Colletti in his suite the other day after Odalis got lit up?? Do you guys have any inside information as to what was said? That would be SWEET info!!!!

Wha-wha-wha-what? From yesterday's Ken Gurnick story at MLB.com, we learned Ledee's "groin muscle tore off the bone". Last time we heard those sounds, they were coming from Giants closer Armando Benitez and he required surgery and essentially a year to recover.

Rob,
This is what I believe I heard from a Dodgers media relations rep. But I may have always misheard it, of course. I know he wasn't suggesting that Ledee would be back soon or anything, just that surgery doesn't seem likely. But we'll look to double check today and if anything's incorrect, we'll be sure to clarify.
Thanks for checking out the blog.

Rob-
That's what it sounded like to me, as well. He'll be out for a while, and there are still a host of doctors who will take a look, but at this point, the need for surgery looks a lot smaller than it did a couple days ago.
We'll let you know if that changes.
Thanks for reading.
