The Salami
Not much of a postgame report, since I was off doing some separate interviews with a few players that had to be completed before the team hits the road. They'll be posted throughout the course of the upcoming week and hopefully, everyone will dig them. But I would be remiss in my Blue duties if I didn't at least create a new thread to celebrate Nomar's jack of all jacks. Methinks he'll probably frame this box score.

Well, we won this series 2 out of 3. Losing those series against the Pirates, Brewers and Cubs will most likely cost us a playoff spot. But if you don't win series' against teams that are a collective 66 games under .500, you don't belong in the playoffs. Unfortunately we have put ourselves in a position where we probably have to win out to get a playoff spot with the way the Phils and Pads are playing. At least we still have a shot. Don't start Penny. Use Billz, Maddux, Lowe, and Kuo.

im not positve but does this mean that nomar is 2 for 2 with 2 hr. and 6 rbi in walkoff situations in the last week?

two walkoff homers in one week for the big guy.
i guess i better stop complaining about nomar before
my fellow bloggers lynch me. i was fighting negative thoughts the whole game. its been a really rough road lately. miracle win or bust.
i hope they're paying you guys a ton of money
to do these blogs. seems like you guys just spend
a ton of time and energy on these blogs. i hope it
doesn't get old for you.

Isn't it ironic, we have a better record than the Cardinals.
Sorry AK/BK. Too bad for us Philly got hotter than hell.

Dodgers won the series against D'backs but still trailing Padres and Phillies. It is a tall order to have a perfect game for the remaining ones but that's the only way to extend playing time to October. Dodgers can't expect Nomar, Jeff and JD bail out the team, it has to start with good pitching and end up with rbi on men on base. Time is ticking...tick...tick...tick...tick!!!

i echo Jim's comments above. especially about not starting Penny. though i'm no longer optimistic about our post season prospects. i moved to the Bay Area about 10 years ago and quickly learned just how much L.A. is hated up here. i was reminded last week when i overheard some kids and older guys on BART talk about how the Dodgers were sure to choke. sour grapes, i partly thought. but at a deeper level i sensed the Dodgers probably would choke. just no heart in our bull pen. still, as an old boy from the Whittier area, i'm super about happy Nomar's resurgence. Boston screwed him over (all over A-Rod, who's now getting screwed over by the NY fans and media, and even Giambi, who shouldn't be allowed to counsel anyone), so i'm glad he's back home (notwithstanding that he still has a Boston condo). i hope the Dodgers keep him around a while longer.

the Phillies may have gotten hot as hell but they have to play another hot team, the Astros who just swept a 4-game series from the Cardinals. And the game is in Houston so the Astros should win tomorrow. If the Astros beat the Phillies tomorrow then the wild card race will be a tie, so it is too early to panic.

I recall way back to April and Nomar was on the DL. Some of those genius, eastern biased writers were talking about an over/under on how often Nomar would be on the DL and how little he would end up contributing.
Well, Boston fans, your team isn't going anywhere and Nomar, despite his injuries, continues to contribute, big time. The Dodgers may or may not make it, but at least they're still in it.
On top of that, there are three guys on the Padres that recently played for the Red Sox that your alleged genius GM let go for almost nothing. They've been a big part of SD's success.
Go ahead and cry about the "evil empire", whine about how David Ortiz is really the MVP, and enjoy those tee times.

Usually there are a 3 or 4 teams in the league that win 90 or more games. This year the Mets have already won 90 but the only team with a chance to win 90 is the Padres, who can finish with a 90-72 record if they win all their remaining games. So there is a good chance that only one team in the NL will win 90 games, which I don't think has ever happened.

If we take care of business, we have a good chance of making the playoffs. Eric is right, Philly has to play a hot, hot Houston team in Houston and then travel to Florida. Just can't afford another Penny Performance from the starting pitching. Go Dodgers!
