Jeff Weaver???
My fiance calls him "the homeless guy" because of the scraggly hair and unusually thin build, but he was nails in the playoffs.
And that noise you heard was the entire Detroit metropolitan area screaming, "Jeff F'in Weaver?" at the same time.

Congratulations to Jeff Weaver and the Cardnials.
Off subject: The Dodgers just hired the Giants trainer. LOL! Sounds like Barry Bonds might be following. LOL! Oh Yeah!

as per my post game 1 post- "Cards in Five" (and it should have been a sweep if that greaseball Rogers wasn't slimen' up the baseball) - anyway congrats AK/BK.......wait, the World Series is over?.......Did it even happen??

Count all the ex-Dodgers whose teams went deeper in the playoffs than the the '06 Dodgers. It'll make you cry.

"The Cards have no business winning. Detroit is superior in every meaningful way.
Tigers in six.
But I hope I'm wrong, and as you've already seen, I've been wrong plenty already."
Well, at least I got part of that right. Woo hoo!

Congrats AK/BK! Count me as one of the ones staring at the TV last night yelling, "Hoover?! F'ing Hoover?!" How the hell did he go 8 innings?! 4 hits?! 9 Ks?! That was not the Hoover we knew, definitely not. The one downside in celebrating a National League winner in the World Series was Hoover getting center stage, but hey, maybe his little bro inspired him. Hubby and I always imagine him as the stoner kid driving his Nova slowly down the main drag. Maybe they just don't have good weed in St. Louis :)

WASN'T I THE GUY THAT BEGGED THE DODGERS TO RESIGN
WEAVER???????
THAT WAS ME, WASN'T IT?????
I THINK IT WAS ME.

YEAH- NATIONAL LEAGUE IS ONCE AGAIN THE DOMINATANT
LEAGUE.
I ALWAYS SAID THE NATIONAL LEAGUE WAS DOMINATANT.
I THINK I SAID THAT.
I'M SURE IT DID.
DIDN'T I???????????

HARD TO BELIEVE THE ANGELS BASICALLY RELEASED HIM.
HE WAS TERRIBLE WITH THE ANGELS.
HOW DO YOU FIGURE IT.
I TOLD THE ANGELS NOT TO RELEASE HIM.
I THINK I DID.
DIDN'T I??????
Posted by: stargazin | October 28, 2006 at 10:42 AM
I PREDICTED THE CARDS WOULD WIN THE WORLD SERIES.
DIDN'T I????
Posted by: stargazin | October 28, 2006 at 10:45 AM
THINK THE ANGELS WOULD TRADE JERED FOR PENNY????????
Posted by: stargazin | October 28, 2006 at 10:48 AM
MY THOUGHTS ABOUT CARDS GOING INTO POST SEASON:
THEIR STARTING PITCHING IS AWFUL.
THEIR RELIEF PITCHING IS TERRIBLE.
THEY ONLY HAVE ONE RUN PRODUCING HITTER.
Posted by: stargazin | October 28, 2006 at 10:52 AM
THINK THERE IS ANY CHANCE THE CARDS WILL RESIGN
WEAVER?????????????????
YOU THINK?????????????????????

Mike T,
Stan Conte worked hard to keep Bonds' personal trainers out of the Giants clubhouse, which was a source of tension between him and the club. I wouldn't start picturing Bonds in Dodger blue just quite yet.

So what does this mean for Stan Johnston?
Posted by: Makoto Ueno | October 28, 2006 at 02:47 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Gary Sheffield complaining about the Yankee's not picking up the option on his contract? Now here we are at the end of the year and the Yankee's pick-up the option and he's complaining, again.
What does this guy want?

Weaver wasn't an ace for the Dodgers, but he was a relatively effective starter who ate up innings. It was nice to see him do well in the post-season, especially after he was written off by so many people following his disastrous time with the Angels.

Mike-
Sheffield is basically a serial complainer. That's kind of his M.O.

I am happy the Cards won. Although I keep thinking what if...what if the Dodgers played the Cards in the 1st round instead of those bloop singles team the Mets? But just a thought.
And this so sweet because the rankings by this "so called baseball experts" have the Cards in dead last. Met/Pads pretty much even, Dodgers, then the Cards. I wish there's a new rule that whoever screws up a prediction have to pay a fine, or go under some type of interrogation and explaining why he messed up his prediction, sort of a punishment for offending the Cards fans.
Off topic here: Is it true Nomah filed for FA? Does that mean we will lose him? Sad, but I guess its ok since Loney will get to play.
Posted by: mti | October 29, 2006 at 09:27 AM
mti,
it doesn't mean that we can't resign him. it just means we haven't resigned him yet. plus with the new collective bargaining agreement there isn't the added pressure to resign nomar quickly (used to have a cutoff of december 7 or january 8th if arbitration was offered). that said, what the dodgers do with nomar in free agency is their prerogative.

Murph-So, there is no signing deadline? A FA can be signed at any time with no restriction?
Posted by: Bigblue48 | October 29, 2006 at 05:39 PM
Big Blue 48,
I've only taken a cursory look at the new CBA, but that's how I understand it. Maybe the Kbros could shed some light on the subject.

Then we have Betemit and La Roche as trade bait to bring in another player/ pitcher

I liked Jeff Weaver's performance in the playoffs and Series. I did not like him much when he was with the Dodgers- he would pitch a good game about every fifth start. When he was not re-signed this year that was fine with me.
Part of the credit for his resurgence must go to Dave Duncan the Cards' pitching coach and to Tony La Russa. Maybe he would have done better with the Dodgers this year under the Coletti-Little regime.
But the part that I like the best was Weaver's reaction to some negative comments by Todd Jones of the Tigers. (See "Jones: No Love Lost Here for Weaver" by Tim Brown, 22 October). Weaver's response: "Todd Jones is one of the nicest guys I've ever run across. If he's got unkind words for me, I don't know what they're stemming from. It's the world Series, maybe he's just trying to get a little jab in here and there."
Spoken like a true professional. More power to Jeff Weaver!
