Not... Quite... Yet...

The ink isn't quite dry on Nomar's contract yet- mostly because nothing has actually been signed- but we might be hearing something about what looks like it could be a two year deal very soon.  Not surprisingly, he'll get a raise, too.

Meanwhile, fans inclined to boo the now departed J.D. Drew may not have travel to Boston or Chicago after all, since the Angels are showing interest.  After all the moves Bill Stoneman hasn't made in the last couple years, to throw Arte Moreno's money- a lot of Arte Moreno's money- at Drew seems an oddish choice.  But hey, I'm just a blogger.

BK,

It doesn't seem odd to me at all. If you're going to sign an "impact" bat (using the term VERY loosely), why not "steal" a guy from the market-rivals up the street? It's about the only free agency victory the Angels can claim in the last few years. It's all about moral victories, man.

Does Drew suck? YES.
Do we want him back? NO.
Will he be grossly overpaid, even more so that he has been the last 2 years? Absolutley.

But that's beside the point. HAHAHA!

LoLo

BK,

Just pointing out that you have the "Not...Quite...Yet" thread twice. Is Asa rubbing off on you? Double-tap? HAHA!!

LoLo:

Maybe BK is just in shock that Stoneman could be so much of a Bo-tard that he would even consider signing herself.

Yeah, I can see she will mix well with Scioscia when she is having her monthly visitor every other week or so...

Oh, yeah, Scioscia will be very "happy" about it...

LoLo

Grumpy,

HAHAHA! I didn't even think about Scioscia!! (Actually, I don't give Drew much thought about anything these days) Mike is going to end up beating the #$%& out of Princess.

Then again, what better place for a Princess than Disneyland??

Bigblue48

LoLo-I think Drew would like Fairyland better!!!!

This...just...in

The Cubs nab Soriano at a cool 8yrs/$136 million. That's $17,250,000 per year. OUCH!!

More...News...Yet

The Angels got some bullpen help by signing Justin Speier to a 4yr deal.

The Cubs get Soriano. The Angels get Speier. Impact, baby!!

LoLo

Looks like the Mets are close to signing Alou at $8-9 million for one year.

WOW!! Is it too late to declare MY free agency yet? If average and old players like Alou can nab $8 million a year I should be able to nab $2-3 milion. AK/BK, hook a brutha up! Put in a good word for me with Ned!

grumpy3b

BTW, in the mean time...nothing is done as far as Nomahhhh yet...how hard is this stuff?

Hmmm...what re-tread is out there for the Dodger's to announce they have signed? It's beginning to sound a lot like...DePUDesta is running things again...JUST KIDDING, whining just because the Dodger's need a nice shiny new toy to show off...darn it anyway!! :D

I just watched an interview with Gary Mathews Jr. The dude is very well spoken and seems extremely mild mannered yet alive. Based on that small interview he has a huge future in post baseball TV.

For a young guy he seems really into the game...as a fan it seems many players are not fans themselves...GMJr. seems to break that mold and knows the game.

Asa

Not that I expected us to make any kind of serious run at Soriano, or have any chance to sign him if indeed we did. And it's not like I particularly want Alou at any

THE MARKETS OUT OF CONTROL. PLAY THE KIDS.
IF THEY GIVE LONEY 500 ABS SOMEWHERE HE CAN MATCH DREWS PRODUCTION.

IT REALLY HURT TO HEAR COLLETTI SAY HE THOUGHT
KEMP NEEDED ANOTHER YEAR IN THE MINORS.

Asa

This is going to come out sounding more negative than it's supposed to, and more negative than I feel, but I'll say it anyway- what do you suppose the odds are on no Dodger player hitting 20 or more Home Runs are next season?

grumpy3b

Asa:

Ummm...it would be like, I think it was 1971 when Billy Grabarkewitz led them with like 21 or so HRs. Which is not bad if you 5+ guys always in the line-up who each hit 20-25 hrs. Given the way the kids hit last year as well as Nomar, Kent and the other geezers on the team, then it would be not a far reach to think they could win 90+ games. But they would need to get at least TWO front end starting pitchers vs a big bat. Personally I think it would be a FUN team to watch. Kinda like the 70s era Cards with Lou Brock, Wille McGee and the gang.

stardude:

It could happen your way though...it would be fun buuuut it's a risk, especially if they being to season too slowly and get in a hole. For now it would mean the must have perfect fielding and for a Fernando to come out of the woodwork...

Asa

Hmmm... I'm a little concerned that 06 wasn't an 'off year' for Kent, rather it was an 'old year', and unless somebody discovers the elixir of life in the next month or two, he's due about 40 more, starting in 07. As for Nomar... If he can stay and play fit, I'd say he could hit 20 with relative ease- problem is, he hasn't been truly fit for 4 years. Then, as for the kids, the only one who seems to genuinely have that kind of power is Kemp, and he might not even be starting next year anyway. Hmm... Hate to sound pessimistic, but I fear our lineup in 07 is going to be VERY soft-hitting, and with no true aces on the market... Yuck! Roll on 08!

joeshmofromcocomo

this is my first comment thing...but i was looking at an espn list of free agents, and ted lily was ranked higher than zito, and i think schmidt was as well, is that just cause of the money? and yes i think that for there to be any success next year we hav to land some uber pitching
