Bust Out The Cheesesteaks!

Because Jayson Werth is now a Phillie!  He of the seemingly permanent bum wrist and the Dodgers parted ways after the front office declined to offer him a contract.  From the blog's perspective, this kinda sucks, since Werth (when healthy and in the house) was probably the funniest guy on the squad.  Hell, dude even had a faux-hawk for a few days!  That's wacky, kids!  And given the lack of quotable guys on this roster (I'm really hoping Randy Wolf turns out to be a regular at The Comedy Store), Werth's absence may be felt from an "adding flavor to an article" perspective.

But from a baseball perspective, he was pretty much expendable.  And Ned Colletti's ability to recognize this (along with issues not so plainly obvious) is in part what led to being named Los Angeles Sportsperson of the Year by the Daily News.   He managed to snag this honor from a large pool of impressive candidates, so kudos are in order.  Your GM's ability to single out talent worth acquiring for the astronomical price tag likely attached will be tested now more than ever.  With any luck, he'll manage to find players who spark similarly fond memories as Larry Sherry.

In other news, start calling your travel agent about vacation packages to Glendale, Arizona.

They don't call AK "Scoop Kamenetzky" for nothing. HAHA!

Lolo,

Name me another outlet with the guts to discuss Werth's faux-hawk. I dares ya! I double dares ya! haha

I Still Think Werth Is Gonna Break Out. I Have A Feeling About Him....

AK,

That's why they call you "Scoop Kamenetzky". I mean, who can forget the infamous Sandy Alomar Jr. sock-on-the-head news story? To boldly go where no other reporter dares to go.

Lolo,

Were Woodward and Bernstein blessed with my keen eye for detail, Nixon would have been impeached a year earlier. haha

LoLo:

Looks as if AK has been moonlighting as Dodgers towel boy again...these guys will go anywhere for their info...the big giant head sends his kudo's!!

WE SHOULD HAVE RESIGNED WERTH AND THEN TRADED HIM
TO TORONTO FOR ALEX RIOS. I UNDERSTAND HE IS A WONDERFUL PLAYER.LOL.

That Jason still has some soreness in the wrist almost 2 years after the original injury can't be very encouraging to the Phillies, whether he passes his physical or not.

Pennsylvania folks had to get us back for taking away Wolf and Lieberthal, thus grabbing Osoria and now Werth. ;)

Hopefully, Werth won't turn out to be another Cody Ross.

Dodgerdog,

Cody Ross or David Ross? Cody Ross ain't no big thing. The guy hit a few homers last year and had one big RBI game, if I remember correctly. David had a fairly decent season, but I suspect it was a fluke. The guy always had power, but he still has big trouble making contact.

I was a big Jason Werth fan -- it will be interesting to see how he rebounds this year.

Len

Len,

Actually, I guess both. But don't discount Cody. He ended up in Florida, had some more good games and had the South Beach honeys displaying signs of love for him. He made out (pun intended) just fine.

Werth, Burrell and Howard all in the same lineup. If they go on a streak, that could be 12 strikeouts between them. Of course, Howard would make the pitcher pay, eventually.

Hmmmmm....read an article that the price for Zito is hovering around $15M for 5 years. If you were the Dodgers would you consider signing Zito for say $17M/yr for 3-5 years and then unload Penny and his, what $9M so that in essence Zito costs the team an extra $6M/yr.

Trade Penny for a buttload of prospects (just no more D-rays...got that part Colletti?...) I think that is a great "trade" for the Dodgers. It also turns the rotation to a very modern day "dream team" style rotation.
