Extra! Extra! (12.5)

The rain's apparently about to start coming down in Orlando, but when it comes to the hunt for a big bat to drop into the Dodger lineup, the forecast basically calls for a whole lotta "dry."  True, the Florida meetings have involved a lot of talk about a certain dude who's just being a certain dude.  And it would be child's play to pry him from Theo Epstein's clutches.  Unfortunately, that's the problem, since the children in question are pretty special.  And unless the Beantown wunderkind agrees on a package involving fewer players born after 1983, it's a swap unlikely to induce mutual signatures.

Can this be a little more vague please?

pssssst....The ram sings at the moon by midnight thursday. and unless the evil red prince will lower the import tariff the kids remain in the west for their safety.

pass it on...

Dodgers just resigned Saito, 1yr, $1 million with $300K worth of possible incentives.

C'mon, Thunder Stealer! HAHA!!

Grumpy,

So you're saying is you like Cocoa Puffs???

Although closers may be over-valued, $1 million for Saito sounds like a bargain considering how inflated salaries have been recently.

LoLo,
You better not be lying about that Sammy signing. Saito was a huge part of our success here last year and I am very glad to have him back.

Good move. I'm a little worried that Takashi may be a one season wonder, but I thought he was bound to be a no-season wonder when we signed him, so what do I know!

Does the new Saito contract make Broxton expendable for a deal involving a big bat?

Resigning Saito is arguably the most important move the Dodgers have made to date. What a bargain he is as well. It just goes to show how inflated this year's FA market is. Makes you wonder what he would have fetched if he had been able to field offers from other teams.

Way to go Ned and co.

Resigning Saito was very important and a great move but resigning Maddux is clearly a very important move. San Diego sure thinks so. All this worry about big money contracts makes my head hurt. But you know what they say "If you want to play, you have to pay". Are those purse strings tightening?

Count Chokula...and frogs fly at midnight...

RE: Gagne and Maddux.
As much as we loved these two guys, I think it is the right move to let them go. Gagne is to big of a risk although he may be great again in a year or two. Maddux looked verrrry tired at the end of the year and not worth 10+Million just because he sets a great example for the other guys.

Whatever happens with this years free agent possibilities, who ever we get or don't get, the Dodgers still have a lot of talent. A home run bat would be great but either way it's time for some of the guys we have to step it up.
Guys like Penny and many on the pitching staff need to show they want more than a paycheck (And I don't think you will see anyone more focused then Joe Biemel. Betimet should be very hungry to prove he is worthy to be a starter. Either will want to prove he is not a one year wonder. Loney and Kemp should be hungry to show they are ready and "just try to keep us out of the line-up!"
I'm hoping for an extremely competitive spring training next year. Kent wants to be in the best shape possible and he knows he doesn't have much time left to get a ring. I would love to see him as Kirk Gibson type in the dug out next year.

Hey Lolo, don't shed 96 Tears or Cry Me A River if Ned gets Manny.
We could have a whole blog section on song references, LOL!

RE: Maddux and Drew.
They'll be sorrrry. I doubt if either of those teams will get teir money's worth from signing these two guys.

David,
I believe you are correct, especially Drew.
