After That Pitching Exhibition, the Tension Was In Grady's Shoulders

Brad Penny was done before he even started Wednesday (literally and figuratively), sitting out a scheduled start against the Mets due to an irritated shoulder. Were this a regular season showdown, the hard-throwing Okie would have likely taken the mound, but that didn't seem necessary for spring training. And the accompanying MRI revealed no serious damage, so no worries on that count. The hurling in place of Penny? Worries. The 6-2 loss featured Hong-Chih Kuo suffering his second straight beat down and  exhibiting a wilder nature than that ex-"American Idol" chick who likes to take naughty photos. The follow-up from Elmer Dessens and Tim Hamulack didn't pretty up the box score any better, prompting Grady Little to warn his staff about making any assumptions heading into the regular season. The main one being, "Don't assume you've made the squad, jackass."

Something of a dubious start to the season for the K Brothers' favorite club. But we imagine it was the most genius, arrogant and uber-managed DUI ever.

Oh $h!t, Furcal just went down!!!

oh, just great...was he in the car with LaRussa?

I stopped listening to the game, any news on the extent of the injury?

...and Repko left the game two innings later with a pulled hammy. Can we just get updates on when he's healthy and save the space in the digital realm?

repko just hurt our best player, he is a trainwreck in all sense of the word. Cut that guy before he kills someone!! this is the worst news that can happened i just hope that he can come back in a few weeks.... sigh the life of a dodgers fan

Hopefully it's just a mild sprain for Raffy. In the meantime, could they have Wilson, Ramon AND Nomar fill in at shortstop, and create some time for Loney at first???

dbb:

Nomahhh at short is at once interesting and at the same time about as scary as it gets. Also with Furcal down it might not be a great idea to risk Nomar anywhere but first. If he goes down they will have a huge hole in the batting oorder. I love Loney but until he is consistent at the MLB level it would be spooky. Of course there is the Wally Pip effect...

Ummm, where are the peepoles now who said signing Pierre was the worst thing ever?

I actually suspect Repko might be the guy on the bubble anyway. He is a GREAT player but it is becoming obvious he does not play smart. There are times it matters and times it is OK to let a ball bounce...dude as throttle control issues....

I'm a big fan of Repko (both as a player- pretty handy to have around- and a person- he's a nice guy), but he seems determined to fill the void left by Jayson Werth. Not good.

BK

OK, I'm cool with just having Wilson Alvarez & Ramon Martinez fill in at short. I seem to remember Ramon being a better-than-decent hitter while filling in last season.

It now looks like the Dodger Brass will get their much wanted opportunity to put Russ Martin in the # 2 spot in the batting order!

BK
I'll tell you one thing. Repko might be a nice guy but he can't hurt the other players. Its bad enough that he gets hurt ALL THE TIME but we need Furcal. You think the Cardinals can use him??

Has anybody ever seen Repko and Schleprock in the same room? (I realize this doesn't make sense to anybody who didn't watch cheesy Saturday morning cartoons in the 70s, but I couldn't help myself). ;-)

Len

Package-

An injured outfielder? He'd fit right in (haha).

BK

Len,

I absolutely got it, and laughed very hard. Nice reference.

AK

oh boy I sure hope the BoSox don't try and package anyone and Drew for Repko...
