Never Let BK Become A Fan Of Your Work
Because judging by his track record after getting on the Hong-Chih Kuo bandwagon, BK's thumbs up is the kiss of death. He may even be a legit mush.
Kuo, whose last couple outings were struggles, just got an MRI back revealing an inflammation in his throwing shoulder. Since Kuo steadfastly and selfishly refuses to learn to throw righty (or because Grady Little hasn't asked him to, one or the other), he'll have to shut it down for a bit, meaning he can't compete for the fifth starting spot come opening day. He's also lucky that while Little may serve as a father figure of sorts for his players, he isn't (to the best of our knowledge) Kuo's actual dad. Otherwise, Skip might have grounded the lefty for not letting the team know about the discomfort in his shoulder. Gritting it out may be admirable, but it ain't always the best thing for the squad. When Kuo is eventually ready to pitch, he'll likely follow up Vegas sessions with time in the pen, which is looking rock solid at the moment.
On a better note, the Blue was able to run off 5 runs in the fifth to pull out a 6-2 win over the Fish. The rally was started by the always-dangerous-with-the-stick Derek Lowe, whose 2 earned runs over 5.2 innings also did little to sully the box score.

Although I hate to see anyone get hurt, these recent injuries to Repko, Furcal and Kuo could be a boon to the Dodgers. Kuo starting at AAA clears up some space on the pitching staff, and now there just may be room for Bigbie and Loney on the major league roster for the first couple of weeks, at least. Unfortunately, this means that Tomko and Hendrickson are pretty much guaranteed to make the team, but at least Grady Little won't have to think so hard the next couple of weeks.
Like Grumpy and some others have said, I'm starting to think that Repko is becoming a liability on the field. He kind of reminds me of that one spaz in grade school who always took the game of 'Tag' a little too seriously. You'd think that a guy coming off of a minor injury in spring training would take it a little easy. At the very least, don't incapacitate a teammate and run into a wall in the span of two innings. I give Repko credit for being a hard-nosed player, but it is possible to be aggressive and stay healthy for an entire season.
I also used to be impressed with Wilson Valdez, until I realized that the guy is 29. Unless the injury bug really starts to go around, I think the Dodgers would be better off if Valdez played somewhere else this year.

yup...nothing like roster decisions by attrition. But this is why we have all be happy about the amount of talented guys the Dodgers have stock piled.
Ya know after thinking about it perhaps Colletti is gun-shy about a set number of players after dealing with the utter lack of young guys during his stint in 'frisco. Nothing like learning how not to do it, especially when one does not have Barroids to fall back on. And Conte must not know what to do with all those industrial drums of "HEET" he had stored in garage. Not enough geezers to use it on...maybe he can sell it on eBay? Or give Repko a great deal on a 150-200 gallons of it... ;)
Mak, love the comparison of Repko to that overly enthusiastic spaz we all knew in school. Had the biggest heart out there but could never quite get it in his head to relax a bit.
I didn't realize Valdez is 29. Yet that is hardly too old, at least in my eyes...hehehehe. Players his age are usually just hitting their stride. And actually before the FA era most players never really got an everyday job until their mid-to-late 20's. It was the exception to see a guy under 24/25 becoming an everyday guy. So, I figure if he can fill a roll now then he should be the guy. He has played hard and earned the shot if it is there to be had. But, if they cannot use him this season maybe it's only fair to find a way for him to play somewhere else, again because the guy has played hard and earned his shot...somewhere.
I have been a fan of Bigbie since early in ST. Something about the way he plays just seems right. His early success aside he does bring speed, solid defense and at worst would be a nice bridge to let Kemp mature (as a player) in AAA as he really needs to do. Plus when I go see the 51s for a week in May that makes it all the better...should be fun to watch the kiddie korps for a few days in a small ballpark.... :)

btw, I think we can point to the exact day Kuo did something to his shoulder...the rain-out. He was flat awful that day not at all like he had been all ST.
But I like the idea of blaming BK instead...he is the younger of the Kbros right? So it should always be his fault...yes?
BTW, won't say I told-you-so about Kuo's durabilty...nope...ain't gonna say it!! }:^p

Grumpy, I agree about Bigbie. He's the kind of guy who could really end up hurting the Dodgers if he gets pushed off the roster by default. Cody Ross could have been the guy last year, except Florida wasn't much of a factor in the Dodgers' playoff push.
Has anyone else noticed that the Mets have now become the 2000-2005 Dodgers? Looking at the Met's camp, you could almost field an entire 25 man roster of former Dodgers who played in the first five years of this decade. From their current 40-man: Guillermo Mota, Chan-Ho Park, Duaner Sanchez, Lo Duca, Jose Valentin, and Shawn Green. As non-roster invitees, they're trying out Steve Schmoll, Aaron Sele, and Sandy Alomar (OK, so the last two are from 2006).
I understand that the Mets were a replacement team for the departed Dodgers and Giants, but this is taking things a little too far.

first time on this blog, longtime dodger fan (mid 60 s) or better put die-hard to the core . just want to make a fast observation on repko, since repko been in the organization he cant seem to shake this injury bug even affecting fulcal on that fielding play, maybe he`s another drew or even a eric gagne clone get`s hurt one time and becomes rubber stamped with a dna mark of injured for life.dodgers dont sign to any longterm contact or you will be eating crow.Repko crow!!!!!!!!

BK
I told you that the Cardinals could probably use Repko!!
Grumpy- Makato
There is no doubt that Bigbie is the man. He has excelled all spring. As I said earlier, way earlier, Repko never can stay well. This will give some of the kids a much needed opportunity.
Now I ask, what about Betimit?? You can answer too BK.

Mak:
WHOA!! I had not noticed that about the Mets...that is the '00-'05 roster. Weird, huh?
Wonder if they wanna trade someone like saaaay, ummm, David Wright for a few current Dodgers, you know just to round things out? Maybe Hendrickson, Repko and I guess they will want someone to cover 3rd so LaRoche?

I think Betemit will likely be just fine. He has seemed to relax these past couple weeks. Just a matter of his stroke getting grooved now. Never doubted he can hit, was a bit worried when he was booting everything he got is US Steel glove on...but he really does look more relaxed these days.
I do think he could be a solid .270-.290, 25-30hr & 85+ RBI guy every season. And in the post steroid era those are going to be good solid numbers.

Hey AK/BK
So what's the word with the Major League Baseball package that offered out of market games to Dodger Fans who bought the cable package??
Is it true that now it's ONLY going to be available to folks who have DirectTV??
I heard somewhere that MLB has somekind of stupid plan to take it from cable subscribers???
I'm in Upstate NY and will really be pissed if I can't watch my Dodger Blue games!!
What's the REAL 411 on this??

The Repko injury is a bad thing for LA as I think he is a valuable defensive outfielder and spot starter. I had my first chance to watch Tony Abreu hit today against the imposing Daniel Cabrera of Baltimore and Abreu looked to have a nice stroke. What is his reputation with the glove? Also, Wolf looked pretty decent. If Penny's shoulder is ok, we might not need to worry too much about the number five starter. If one through four are good, the Dodgers can mix and match in the five spot.

NY Laker Fanatic,
You've got it correct. MLB extra innings is only available via DirecTV. You can watch games on your computer through MLB.com for about $100+.
It is essentially the same situation as the NFL has with their package.
