Status Kuo.... Unfortunately
It's not a question of whether or not Hong-Chi Kuo has the proverbial "stuff." He does. But whether or not he can put all that stuff together in a complete and effective game remains a mystery, especially after yesterday's 7-6 loss to San Diego. For three innings, the lefty kept the Pads at bay, striking out a trio of Papa batters and surrendering just a run. Unfortunately, the 2-1 lead staked for Kuo turned into a fourth inning blood bath, highlighted by a three-run jack by Kevin Kouzmanoff. By the time Kuo handed the ball to Grady Little, he put a few more on base, all of which eventually crossed home. Damage done and really quite tough to repair. Not that the Blue didn't give it their best. An eighth run rally cut the Padres lead to a pair of runs and the Dodgers racked another in the final frame. Unfortunately, Major League Baseball doesn't award bonus runs for hard work, so the box score remained a loser.
Baseball is a team game, but the one guy that can't be blamed for the loss is Marlon Anderson. And with good reason, since he's no longer with the team. Chin-Hui Tsao was activated for active middle relief hurling, which meant the roster was overstuffed by one. That unlucky uno was the utility man in question.
One of those splendid "nuff said" matchups today. Brad Penny v. Jake Peavy. Like we said, 'nuff said.

I'm watching Mets-Phils. Centerfield is being played the way it is supposed to be, with Carlos Beltran and Aaron Rowand. Pierre's misplay last night cost a run and the Dodgers lost by one.
I know he is a legendarily hard worker. Can you imagine what he'd be like if he didn't work so tirelessly? I admire his work ethic, but he just doesn't get the job done. How did he ever survive in that huge outfield in Colorado?

With the lack of offensive production the Dodgers suffer from, we certainly cannot afford to continue putting ineffective relievers in the starting rotation.
(Kuo, Billingsley, Tomko, Hendrickson, etc) Beimel and Broxton only round out what has to be the worst bullpen in baseball. Tsao is no savior, he isn't any better than the rest. Grady Little needs to pull these guys out at the first sign of trouble and not wait until the massacre is over. A once proud pitching tradition with the likes of Koufax, Drysdale, Sutton, and Hershiser is made a mockery of by this bunch of circus clowns we trot out there today. The season should focus on beating the Giants and the Padres if you do nothing else

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.com says the Dodgers have interest in Mark Buerhle. The Sox wouldn't give him a no-trade clause in exchange for a lower than market contract. Ned?
