Betemit for Proctor

Well, there will be at least one deal for the Blue today.  The rumored Wilson Betemit for Scott Proctor deal is a reality.  Fills a need for both teams.  While losing Betemit will thin out the bench and take away arguably the best source of left-handed power on the team (scarily enough), considering the state of the pitching staff something needed to be done.  With Andy LaRoche playing well again, the Dodgers have some insurance should Nomar go down.  In terms of priorities, shoring up the staff had to be at the top, and with question marks surrounding Derek Lowe and Randy Wolf, the pen is set to get a lot of work down the stretch.

Proctor hasn't been as good in '07 as he was last season, having already walked nearly as many batters and surrendered 2/3 as many home runs in only 1/2 the innings, but he's an upgrade over what they have down there.  Also, I just read on ESPN.com that the Cards are still dangling Troy Percival around the league, and the Dodgers might be interested.  Not sure if this changes that or not, but it's an interesting name who could be had on the cheap.

Solid move, I think.

Regardless of how good or bad Proctor will turn out to be, he sure is a workhorse and more reliable than Seanez or Hernandez. Any time you can get pitching for a bench player, that's a plus.

I guess it's a good move for both sides. I'm just afraid that, after going through the Joe Torre meat grinder for the past couple years, Proctor will burn out like the rest of the Dodger 'pen.

I'm not sure what the Yankees are thinking about Betemit, though. According to the stories I've seen, they're looking for him to play first base ,and maybe second as well. I wouldn't have faith in him anywhere besides third, but last I checked they've got a third baseman they're wanting to stick with for the rest of the season.

So, any word on corresponding roster moves? Will Abreu be brought back up to spell Kent? If so, is someone getting voted off the island to make room in the 'pen for Proctor?

This can't hurt. How could it get any worse anyway? We need pitching, period. This is the most injuries I think I have ever seen on a Dodger pitching staff ever.

My only regret is that we don't have Marlon Anderson's left handed bat off the bench anymore to replace Betemit.

Good luck Wilson! Knock 'em outta the park!

Let's put an end to this AWFUL 2-week Hernandez experiment and send him packing.

The reason Pierre continues to play at the expense of ethier and kemp is he currently has the longest consecutive games played streak (not justifying...just pointing it out again)

what a bad move. now i cant wait till betemit pulls a konerko and dominates. why arent the dodgers dealing with the angels? now i think colleti was pressured for this...

the WOLF

a better trade would have been betemit and a AAA guy for ervin santana or saunders or maybe carrasco. proctor is a used bloody tampon. the yanks abused him and tossed him. why would they give up on pitching when they need pitching? they are four games out of the wild card; plenty of time to catch up. colleti's been snaked.

Package

This was a move that had to be made. Betemit never performed as he was supposed. He may make the Yankees a great ballplayer, but he never was a keeper for the Dodgers. Even if Proctor is a bust, Betemit already was!! This will make room for Arebu or LaRoache. Both need Major League development, as did Loney and Kemp.

I just know you all are happy!!!

the WOLF

betemit has 10 homers in 200 or so less ab than the regs. this guy can hit. if he had to go, he shouldnt of went to the yanks for proctor. this whole bonds thing is clouding neds judgement.
