Noise from the Torre press conference
I'll fill in around this, but for those of you who want more sound from today's festivities, here you go. The press conference itself can be found here, or at Dodgers.com (just go straight to their site if the link doesn't work). It includes introductions from Vin Scully and Frank McCourt, then Torre himself. Beyond that, print media had time with both Torre and GM Ned Colletti. Most of the conversation centered around the process that brought him here, as well as what changes might be in store heading into next season (including discussion of Juan Pierre moving to left). A couple basic news items- first Larry Bowa will be the third base coach next year, and while Don Mattingly will also be part of Torre's staff, his role hasn't yet been determined.

Plenty more to come.

Well at least Joe Torre apologized for rooting for the Giants when he was growing up. Nobody's perfect.
Apology accepted.

Just watched the press conference and it reaffirmed one thing for me:
I have been a Dodger fan all 22 years I have been alive. Sadly, I was too young to appreciate '88, and not even a twinkle in my father's eye during the Dodgers' heyday of the 1970s and 1980s. Instead, I have been subjected to pain and torture, watching Piazza go so that we could sign Kevin Brown, the wasted talent of 5 consecutive ROYs, NewsCorp (enough said), and the parade of inefficient/inadept managers between Lasorda and (hopefully) Torre. And why do I stick around?
Vin Scully.
Listening to the man brings a smile to my face. He is the voice of my childhood and the soundtrack to everything that makes baseball the greatest game ever played. It breaks my heart to consider that my children will not be able to experience the greatest voice I have ever heard.

Ok now that i assume there will be no more complaints of ridiculous lineups (Grady Little) its now time to argue for...........PLAYING EITHIER, KEMP, and REPKO (yes folks, just like KEVIN KENNEDY, I THINK REPKO HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO PLAY EVERYDAY)...........and........um........ok not batting JEFF KENT higher then 6............not batting NOMAR higher then 7th (if at all).........
actually u knwo what folks..........i really wonder what torre is going to do with the outfield..........u have KEMP, EITHIER, D. YOUNG, REPKO, AND PIERRE...........which 3 play as starters?.............i think the answer is...........any of them but Pierre

Pierre is here to stay, so get use to it & quit whining & crying about him in very other post. That is not going to make him go away. I would no doubt think that he will also play every day under Torre next year.
I'm looking forward to next season. Hopefully there will be a LOT less of your negative posts & you can make a positive one every now & then.

Aryan -
You're actually the reason I quit.
I figured it was either listen to another season of your rambling, incoherent sputtering about my lineups - and shoot myself in the head - OR quit.

Aryan,
If you had to pick a starting outfield from Ethier, Kemp, Repko, and Young, which 3 would you pick?

ok aryan, here's the '08 lineup in MY dodger world and predictions of how they'll do given they play FULL TIME ...

lf kemp .280 30-35hr 25sb 90+rb

4sp billingsly 3.20 17wins
5sp wolf 4.25 10 wins
cl saito 2.10era 45saves
rp broxton 2.75 35hlds
etc
trade pierre for bullpen help. tell kent to go ride his motorcycles somewhere else.
i predict the dodgers go to the world series to face the yankees and beat them in 7 games and torre gives the bird to steinbrenner.
i'm not in favor of signing a-rod. for some reason he can't get a WS ring. and everytime he leaves his former team ends up improving. i wouldn't be surprised if the yankees go to the WS next year because he left. i suspect that a-rod might be a distraction in the club house ... either paycheck envy or maybe his teammates rely on him too much and forget to do their part to win. i don't know.
i like our young core. its as talented as any out there and with them a year older i can't wait to see whats in store in '08.
i'm curious what everyone else's predictions are ...

Seba,
I like your lineup, especially the outfield, but can Young play second? I tought that was why they shifted him to the outfield. I would also like to see Abreu and Hu as alternate infielders
But on another note I think LaRouche will not turn out to be a good third baseman and we should go after A-Rod...he would solidify our young group of guys

I don't know where all the love for Repko comes from, but I don't get it. He is a J.D. Drew clone with less talent. Pierre is here to stay. I would like to see a trade to get Santana. I understand it will cost a young bat and a young arm, but I like the idea of him in LA.

I liked Jason Repko prior to his recent injuries, and thought he could hit enough to justify a starting job in the outfield. Great attitude, speed and a magnificent arm. Now, I'm not so sure. Prior to coming up with the Dodgers, Repko tore a hamstring in the minors (I believe it was a pretty serious tear). Given his ankle and hamstring injuries of the last couple of years (both serious), I wonder how much of his speed has been compromised. I'll have to be convinced that he's anything more than a spare outfielder, if that much. And as much as I love his hustle, he might have to tone down his game a bit.

Interesting line ups, though Repko is likely gone and Torre has made it very public that he wants Kent back. Abreu is the second baseman of the future, even though Delwyn Young can play it. The only way I see Young staying is as the fourth outfielder or if Pierre is moved. Hu and LaRoche are trade bait, even more so if A-Rod signs. What's iwith the suggestion that Wolf is coming back? Thanks for the attempt Randy, but we can't afford you at the price you can command.
