Decisions, decisions, decisions

There are still a few things left for the Dodgers to decide with Opening Day less than two weeks away.  First, there's the outfield, where the distribution of playing time between Juan Pierre, Matt Kemp, and Andre Ethier has yet to be determined.  Then there's third base, where the Dodgers could be short if Nomar Garciaparra has to start the season on the DL, which is a growing possibility, given that his participation on Opening Day is doubtful.

At least they know who will pitch that day. Brad Penny will take the hill when the Blue kick off the season against the Giants on March 31.

On the field, the Dodgers kicked off their new Cactus League life with an 8-2 win over the White Sox.  Penny threw six innings and allowed only one run- unearned- to lower his spring ERA to 0.56.  That's pretty good!  With the sticks, Rafael Furcal's strong preseason continued, with a 4-5 day that included a double and a homer.  Matt Kemp went deep as well.

Ethier, Jones, Kemp

Base on perfomance that should be your outfield line-up.

It looks like Ethier might be winning Torre over

"In the first inning, he fought the ball off [for a soft single], the sign of a good hitter," said Torre. "He gets the most out of every at-bat."

Looks like Pierre is showing his true colors - http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=200803

Shame - I thought he was a good kid.

A story on dodgers.com has Juan Pierre complaining about possibly being on the bench. This is the second time during the spring that Pierre has mouthed off about this.

So then what does he do? Gets a chance to start today, and proceeds to go just 1-5, gets caught stealing, AND gets picked off first base.

I've said it before, but if Juan can't suck it up and do what's best for the TEAM, then they are most definitely better off without him.
