Happy Easter to all!
Hey everyone. We're out kicking it old school with Peter Cottontail (dude knows where all the good eggs are hidden), so no formal post this morning. But we'll give you the basic gist. The Dodgers lost a 4-2 game against the Angels after a 7th inning blast by Mike Napoli, putting a bummer on Derek Lowe's stellar outing. No real worries, though, since it's just spring training. More legitimately bothersome, however, are the struggles of Takashi Saito (whether caused by his bad calf or not) or Jeff Kent's strained hammy.
Something to think about while you're digging into that ham.

Happy Easter guys! So I see the rumor mill has the Dodgers looking into a possible trade for the Royals' Esteban German for a couple minor leaguers (Jonathan Meloan and Miguel Pinango).

Personally, I'd like to see Hu or DeWitt get a shot at third (Hu's probably the most ready right now) rather than trade for an average player like German. Don't know much about Pinango, but Meloan seems like a solid reliever in the making.

I hope they don't trade Meloan for a middle nothing player.
He has a lot of potential and should draw more than a utility player if he were used in a trade.
What is up with Billz?
He has had a horrid spring.
I was wondering what Billz has looked like in person?
How is his velocity? Any chance he is nursing an injury or just getting a slow start?
Outside of Penny, all of our starters have been hit hard on at least once if not more.

I would prefer to suffer through R Martinez as opposed to trading Meloan. We have plenty of options for 3B. Not great options at this point but at least equal to anyone available on the trade market. Besides, Nomar and LaRoche will be back and then what do we do. Release the guy we traded for?
I hope they do not do anything rash and end up with another Lugo.
I see our guy with the ring was another O'fer.
I wonder why D Young has forgotten how to hit?

Hope the German rumor is false. Despite the problems he had during his call-up last September, Meloan remains a solid prospect. And if the Dodgers did decide to trade him, certainly I would hope that they would get more than a utility-type like Esteban German (yes, I admit to never having seen him play).
For those who are interested, here are German's career stats:

And I agree with Chris. I'd prefer to see DeWitt or Hu get a shot before acquiring a questionable player at an inflated price. I would also add Abreu to the mix of potential replacements at third. The fact that this may only be a short term problem makes a trade even more unpalatable.

If we can take him at his word, Bills is working on stuff this spring, most notably his changeup.

This from Peter Gammons on the ESPN Insider Blog:
"Nomar Garciaparra insists he will be physically ready to open the regular season, but even if he is not, Dodgers GM Ned Colletti is not going to rush into a trade for a third baseman.
"We're not going to make a long-term move because we believe [Andy] LaRoche and [Blake] DeWitt are going to be here for a long time at that position," says Colletti.
L.A. is not going to take on Brandon Inge's three-year, $19.1 million contract, and as good a player and teammate as Joe Crede may be, scouts in Arizona seem concerned about his back.
Andre Ethier has had what appears to be a breakout spring, but with Juan Pierre's contract untradeable, the Dodgers will open the season with Ethier, Matt Kemp, Pierre and Andruw Jones in the outfield mix and let manager Joe Torre deal with one daily unhappy camper. As for Clayton Kershaw, it sure sounds as if the Dodgers believe he will be a factor this season; the issue will be limiting his innings early in the season so that he is fresh come August, which means 150-160 innings for the whole season."
