Kent surly, hamstring surlier

Bad news from Port St. Lucie today.  Warming up before what would become a 3-2 loss to the Mets, Jeff Kent felt a twinge in his hamstring, and the Blue wisely shut him down.  Currently, he's slated to be out at least a week.  Obviously, it's a little too early for our readers to crack each other's heads open and feast on the goo inside, but when a player, especially an older one, yanks a hammy, it's never a good thing.

It's never too early to crack open skulls and feast on goo!

I guess the Delwyn Young @ 2B experiment will gather a bit more steam...

Well, I guess its time to beat up another vet and say that he gets hurt all the time and that we should start an unproven rookie no matter what. Just a little twinge will do that even if its a future hall of famer.

I rephrase:

Kent surly, Package surlier.

I may be in the minority here, but I really like Jeff Kent and think he brings a lot of intangibles to this team. The guy is a grittty, HOF caliber player who plays to win, every day. Sure he'll clash with the younger guys at some point, but I think he will also show them the way to win a championship.

AK/BK - what do you guys think of Kent as a guy who could lead this team to the World Series?

On a related note, I was in Vegas over the weekend and the Dodgers were 3-1 favorites to win the NLCS. Only two teams had better odds: the Mets and the Cubs (I think). Of course I put $20 down on the Boys in Blue.

Chris-

Hey. I'm a fan of Kent, and think they need him in the lineup, save a better alternative, which I don't think they have. Kent isn't the 40/120 guy he was in years past, but he's still capable of 20/90, which isn't bad at all from a 2B. I'm certainly in no hurry to yank him out of the lineup. Tony Abreu is a good young player, but they need more sock. I think the Delwyn Young at 2B thing could be a nice addition for the Dodgers- more flexibility, another way to get Kent rest without losing much stick.

I don't think he'll lead them to a Series, in the sense of carrying a team, but he certainly can be a part of a successful squad. Good health for JK is important.

Chris,
I like Kent also (I think he can help this team) but when has he ever led a team to a championship?
