Feeling bad about Kuroda? No w ay. They signed him to be a fourth starter, and h'es put up good numbers for a fourth starter. If Saito doesn't blow that save for him, if he gets alittle more offensive support, he's got a 3-1 record.
Jones, Pierre, schmidt? Absolutely. I'll keep the book open on Jones for another two months, but we've been all over the place with Pierre and Schmidt about how bad those signings were.
As long as we're overpaying for talent, what would the Dodgers have to give up to get CC Sabathia, and would it be worth it?
Kemp and LaRoche? Kemp and Kershaw? Does Cleveland need another outfielder? How about Ethier, so that they can stock their outfield with guys who were traded for Milton Bradley? Just a thought. But the Dodgers need an ace if they're going to be a force in the playoffs, let alone get there.
In theory, I'm in favor of pulling the trigger on a Sabathia deal, but I reserve the right to change my mind if the deal is too sweet for Cleveland. But the future is now, while Penny and Lowe are bothsigned (their contracts are up at the end of 2008). A 2009 rotation of Sabathia, Penny, Billz, Kuroda, and Kerrshaw doesn't look too bad either.
Just thinking out loud at this point, but it's something they should be thinking about.
For sure, it's a valid point that Kuroda was signed as a fourth starter. I just brought him into the conversation because he's both a fairly expensive fourth starter and coming off a terrible performance. But I would agree that of the four Dodgers named, his is the one that appears the least problematic thus far.
In today's Plaschke column, he describes Carmelo Anthony as having a "carefree, apathetic smile." Does that sound like any Dodger player we have learned to love?
In my mind the thing that makes the Pierre deal so infuriating is there are no 'what ifs'. Pierre came over with a certain reputation for what he could do.And then he did it. I believe he had`a better year than his previous season. He had a better second half (as he usually does) and then Ned says we need to upgrade and gets Jones. Two wasted signings.

Sabathia would be a good addition to the dodgers, but at what price? The indians are going to ask an arm and a leg for him and Samo is right, they have too many outfielders in Cleveland, so what would we send their way? I just don't see the dodgers trading for Sabathia at this time. If I had a choice on a pitcher to bring in, I would rather see Doc Holliday from Toronto be traded for, the guy is an ace, has low pitch counts, ground ball pitcher who finishes a lot of his games which is something the dodgers pitchers are allergic to. It doesn't hurt his #'s are great against the beasts of the east.
Instead of trying to acquire, we should be trying to inspire our younger men to live up to their potential.
Instead of playing hookie, we should be trying to start a new rookie of the year quest.
Instead of Pierre... it should be Ethier.
Ok the last one is a stretch, but you get my point.
K bros - I'm not giving up on this question... what is with the "Flying Booty Bump". It looks scary and dangerous, especially with Jones, if he can get that thing airborn.
Benzo, the "Flying Booty Bump" as you call it is not new, it's been going on for a while in football, replacing the high five. Naturally it's moving onto younger players of other sports.
Also, if you think the Dodgers should trade any of our young talent for CC Sabathia, you should have to wear a helmet so you don't hurt yourself in the course of your day to day activities. We have a solid rotation that will be fine in the playoffs. Billingsley is going to start to post some W's soon-- he has a .455 BABIP, that's going to come down. You don't strike out 12 guys in 6 innings without having some sick stuff.
As I said on another thread any perceived bad signing pales in comparison to the Giants contract with Barry Zito. At the time I thought it was ridiculously overpriced but thought they would get a little more return on their money than this. And to think they made a run at Andruw Jones too.

I said it before and I'll say it again.
