Six and the City (Milwaukee, in this case)
This afternoon in Milwaukee, the Dodgers had a huge sixth inning fueled by a very unexpected six run seventh inning: Homers from the slumping Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent, plus one from Gary Bennett (who doesn't get enough PT to slump). Chad Billingsley was rock solid, going seven innings and allowing only one run and three hits. The result? A 7-2 series capping win. LA comes home-ish to face the Angels this weekend.

What a difference 24 hours makes. When I turned off the game last night to go out for the evening, the Dodgers were losing 4-3 (and deserved to be losing 4-1 because of some bad infield defense by the Brewers). When I got home, they had come back for the first time all year, and then went out and put up another hurting this morning. Just the kind of momentum you want to be riding into Anaheim.
So one night ago, it was ohmigod the team stinks and can't ever win another game. Today, they're world beaters, with Jones and Kent contributing at long last. Both of those guys are going to have to contribute for the Dodgers to have a chance, so it's good to have them on the ball. I just hope FAJ doesn't get homer happy now that he's hit his second dinger of the year.
As for LaRoche at 2B, I'm all for it. But he's stuck on the depth chart behind JASON REPKO!!!!!

SaMo,
Since he began his career with the Dodgers as a shortstop, maybe Repko can replace Furcal. And LaRoche was once considered the top 2B prospect in the Dodger organization. Is there a better DP combo in the game?

I thought Repko was in place for McCourts job?

Damn you Repko!
I would like to see the Dodgers take two out three from the Angels or better yet sweep the series. I'm not really getting excited about this team until they show some consistency. As a matter of fact I won't even get excited if they win the next 5 or 6 games 'cause that would mean the next struggling phase is lurking around the corner. When a team is 20-25 games over .500, that's when you know that that's a good team. I would like to see the Dodgers get to this point before I start getting all excited, but it seems highly unlikely.

My friend in the midwest was lucky enough to attend today's game a Miller Park. Like any true Dodgers fan, he was leaving the stadium in the 9th to beat the Milwaukee traffic. As he was leaving, he passed the Dodgers bullpen, and stuck his head over the rail to see what kind of action was taking place, and guess what he saw?
There, on the floor of the Dodgers bullpen was...THE BLUE GNOME!!!!!! Coinsidence? I think not!!!

a weird/crazy fluke of nature, maybe one of THE most abnormal baseball events of the 21st century, with fatso (jones), "grandpa" (kent) and bennett ALL homering in the same game..........meanwhile, broxTON still struggles.........another 3rd baseman gimpy (this has to be approaching some sort of record now with 4 3rd sackers injured prior to memorial day), and new utility infielder (not necessarily known for hit bat) commits an error in his first test........hope i'm wrong, but look for the halos to have their way with the blue boyz

I have to say that I was impressed with Andruw's home run -- until Bennett hit one in the same inning, too. Somehow, it's just not as impressive when Ben Sheets starts handing them out like Halloween candy.

While a Dodger starter (Bills) is having a great outing, I thought the offence was going to hang him out to dry. More drama to wait I guess, haha.
Andruw is looking better, maybe he can turn it around. We still need him to hit HRs like today though. You don't pay a guy 18 mil to just hit .265. Plenty of guys can do that.
Poor Andre Either. The guy is stuck in the OutfielderZone.

It was great to see the three most struggling Dodgers break out and go YARD.
FAJ has improved over the last couple of days as pointed out with him and Mattingly going over tape and finding a couple of flaws. He's being more patient and going the other way with the outside pitches now. Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel now

repko is a frigging idiot, an accident waiting to happen, as he basically ruined furcal's 07 season.......repko will never be any more than an avg. (below avg.?) minor leagurer (plus he's injury-prone himself).......still unbelievable that dodgers literally gave away a decent player (cody ross) in favor of this "nutto"

Unit, last time i checked Cody Ross was riding the pine in Florida. Yeah the guy had the same HR power as Repko but he was slower and was worse in the outfield. He was a good kid and always did well in spring training but i didn't think he was all that good. I liked Ross, but i don't think he is as good as you claim. And as for Repko being an idiot i disagree. Injuries happen, the furcal collision was an accident, you make it sound like Repko is out there to injure his team every at bat every pitch. Sure he is injury prone, so is Griffy, Prior, and about half of the league. (granted they produced at one point in their careers, but that is not the point) Personally i think he is hitting like crap in the minors because he missed an entire year with a torn hamstring and is trying to get his feel for the game back. A lot of guys are preaching patience to let guys figure things out, especially pitchers who have come back from a year off. Give the kid some time before we relegate him to being a bottomless abyss of sucktitude. I can't imagine being injury prone defines one person as an idiot, if so Nomar and Laroche are idiots for being hurt too. Being an idiot would be putting a fresh red sock in with a load of whites in the wash, mowing over your sprinklers or driving under the influence. I know this year's theme has been Repko mania, but i would disagree that Cody Ross was a better player by any means.
Heres Cody Ross's stats this year:
BA HR RBI OBP SLG
.191 4 10 .260 .412

to poppinfresh --
yes you're correct, and i apologize as my remarks re: repko were a bit over the top........he's a young guy just trying to make it and i do wish him well, i just believe he may have a hard time w/dodger organization as other young outfielders seem to have moved ahead of him (maybe a position change/org. change would be better for him in the long run).......and yes, ross is struggling this yr, but he did have fairly good stats last yr........but ross is still enjoying life in the bigs and guess he sorta got a break when afforded chance to play w/marlins who provided him more of a chance than he otherwise might have had w/dodgers......but for now, ross is enjoying life in the bigs, and on a playoff contender too (however, you're point is correct, that he is struggling and if he doesn't pick it up soon he too very likely may be back in the minors).....again, i apologize for my previous overly critical remarks

Didn't cody ross stitch a flag er sumthin?
Posted by: benzojones | May 17, 2008 at 12:18 AM
unit, no need to apologize, we all vent here. I like Ross i really do, the guy is a little firecracker. I guess we have had a lot of good kids come through the outfield and never get a shot at the lineup. Ross, Repko, Werth who just had a monster night with the philies I wish the dodgers would give em all a shot rather than signing some bad FA outfielders. I think you are right, maybe they should get repko a chance at 2B or something, at this rate Hu isn't doing much and I think they are about to cut their losses on Young.
