Big Bills

It's a given these days that a Dodger hurler isn't going to see much run support.  And considering the shaky D of the last few games, help from the leather can't be counted on, either.  With that in mind, Chad Billingsley hit the mound Tuesday night in Cincinnati between a rock and a hard place, but with a perfect plan.  Don't let them score, and for good measure, don't let them put the ball in play.  Over 6.1 innings of one-run ball, Bills struck out nine Cincinnati hitters, including eight in the first four frames.  He was more or less unhittable.  Combined with a 3-4, one hit, one run performance from Jeff Kent and RBI doubles from Juan Pierre and Russell Martin, that was enough to push the Blue to a badly needed 3-1 win over the Reds.

With Brad Penny on the shelf and Hiroki Kuroda potentially following him (see the previous post), the Dodgers needed a little good news.  Fair to say Billingsley delivered.

Good win. Bills really pitched liked he wanted it.
Still, twice the Dodgers had a runner on third with one out or less and both times screwed the pooch.
Bill Murray: "Stop it, you maniacs... get out of here! I LOVE ya..."

Hey Kuroda is a Dodger pitcher. Why shouldn't he have arm problems too?

I'm starting to think that poor hitting is contagious, an untreatable disease. They could trade and get Utley here and guess what? He's immediately go into a slump, lol.

The blue were lucky to win thanks to Bills saving their sorry asses.
who's next on the long long long long list of of injuries.......hey how about Ned Colletti?

Eric B.

If they can't beat a team with Jolbert Cabrera, Paul Bako and David Ross, who can they beat? (So, will the Reds be picking up Wilson Valdez and Toby Hall next?)

Can Ned Colletti tear his Crapio Signings Ligament? Or is that a tendon.

Billingsley has really turned into a fine pitcher. Let's hope Kuroda isn't hurt too seriously and that Kershaw matures like Bills -- then at least we'd have a couple first class starters to build on. Not sure what the contract situation is with Lowe, but he remains a quality pitcher that would be nice to retain.

LossLeader --

Lowe's a free agent after this year, with Scott Boras as his agent. Do the math. :-)
