Nothing doing for the Dodgers as of 1:22, past the 1 pm non-waiver deadline but still not entirely out of the window for deals to trickle in. Don't expect anything, though. The interesting thing is the continuing noise that financial considerations are a big stumbling block for the Dodgers. It was reported earlier today that the Greg Maddux talks fell apart because the Dodgers wanted too much money from San Diego to help cover the HOFer's remaining salary. How much of that is true is hard to gage, because once the label of non-spender is attached to a team, it's hard to shed. But should it be cash that kept the Dodgers from improving today (and changed the parameters of the Casey Blake deal), it'll certainly be a topic of conversation for a while.

Interesting what Rosenthal is saying, because Jayson Stark on ESPN is saying just the opposite, that the money isn't an issue, it's that the Padres seem to be asking too high a price in prospects:

But what is this Rosenthal reports of Manny to the Dodgers????

WOW!! has anybody heard about Manny Ramirez coming to the Dodgers?? From Fox Sports:
Manny Ramirez has been traded to the Dodgers in a three-team blockbuster, pending the approval of the commissioner's office, according to a source with knowledge of the deal.
Pirates outfielder Jason Bay is headed to the Red Sox. The Pirates will receive Andy LaRoche and right-hander Bryan Morris from the Dodgers and outfielder Damien Moss and releiver Craig Hansen from the Red Sox.
The Red Sox will pay all of the approximately $7 million remaining on Ramirez's contract.

according to some sites, Manny is now a Dodger?
If LaRoche and Morris are the biggest prospects exiting, this is a brilliant move.

If we got Manny and we didn't give up Andre or Kemp, then Ned Colletti just saved his job.

Dammit. It's bad enough I have to hear Manny's drama in the local news, now I have to hear it while following my favorite team? I hope Torre pulls him aside and informs Manny that he'd have no problem depositing his cleats in Manny's rear if he pulls that crap here.

Now trade Andruw Jones for a bullpen catcher and we will be set.

Ok 5 outfielders. we have 1 ho cant hit, one who cant field and one who cant throw... sounds like our OF is screwed. Sure Manny can hit, but who is sitting for him? Glad we didn't give up too much for a decent bat, but having 5 OF is just plain stupid.
