MAN Torre does not like Eithier does he, or is it Collettitus.
Alas, I am blacked out again thanks to the fine folks at MLB so I will not be able to watch this... although something about the Pierre/Kemp one-two punch makes me feel all squishy inside.

I got money says Jones strikes out with men in scoring position.
Either is loads better.

Is it any chance Pierre / Jones playing tonight as a trade deadline showcase? Or Pierre leading off to show Kemp how to be patiente at the plate? just for this game...

Bringing bob's post over from the last thread, so I can reply:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Time to end the controversy of who should be the leadoff batter. My candidate is Andruw Jones....he always makes the pitcher work hard...never get him out with one or two pitches, takes at least three. Also, would allow our pitcher to get frequent walks as opposing pitcher choose to pitch to Swish.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
It appears that bob neglected to mention that if Andruw bats leadoff, the breeze generated by his swings and misses should keep the temperature nice and pleasant for our #2 hitter Matt Kemp, who has to work hard when he has to constantly run out his doubles and triples and stolen bases.

Are you also the guys that keep getting LaRoche in the line-up? Would you please put DeWitt back in? Also, you forgot Little Billy in the Valley.

I give up.

How pathetic. Torre won't be fired but this is the last straw. Colletti can't be dumped quick enough. In 3 years we've suffered through Tomko, Seo, Hendrickson, Hamulack, Baez, Carter, Schmidt, Wolf, Proctor, Loiaza, Hall, Bennett, Lieberthal, Berroa, Lugo, Betemit, Pierre, Jones and Sweeney. Frank please meddle. Stop any trades that this idiot tries to make. Fire him. You've got 60-70 miilion in salary free after this year. Please bring in someone who can evaluate talent and can spot an injury.

How about a Live Blog this weekend...we might need it if the lineups are going to look like this one and it's going to my last weekend with MLB for a while...trying to close on a house while I staying in a hotel starting next week.

Package, you mean the most unproductive third baseman in the league Blake DeWitt? We've already got the most unproductive leadoff hitter (Pierre is dead last among MLB leadoff hitters with 200 at bats in runs scored), and the most unproductive all around player in Jones. Let's keep that munson DeWitt on the bench for the time being.

If you do a live blog PLEASE do it Sunday, as I'm blacked out on Fri-Sat

Here's some additional data for you guys:
The Dodgers have played 101 games.
Nomar led off once and Repko led off once and the Dodgers lost both games.
Furcal hit lead-off in 31 of them. The Dodgers went 17-14 and averaged scoring 5.5 runs a game. They scored fewer than 3 runs 8 times or about 25% of the time.
Kemp has hit lead-off in 18 games. The Dodgers are 11-7 in those and averaged 5.1 runs a game. They scored fewer than 3 runs 5 times or about 27% of the time.
Notice any similarity in those numbers ?
Now, how do we do with JP hitting lead-off ? Well, we went 21-29 (ugh) and AVERAGED 3.2 runs a game. They scored less than 3 runs (get this) 23 times - 46% of the time.
You guys tell me. I'm not saying that who hits lead-off is the only factor in the team's production (there are 9 guys playing), but can this really be a coincidence ? It's 2 runs less per game vs Furcal/Kemp with him hitting in that spot with a 50 game sample! And, oh, by the way,
they are 28-21 when Furcal or Kemp leads off and 21-29 when JP does.
Oh, I forgot - we need someone who will give us "quality at bats", wasn't that it ???
Of course the worst part about this line-up isn't where Pierre is hitting, it's where Ethier is batting - not.

Since when is LaRoche knocking the cover off the ball? I think DeWitt would be a much better alternative than La Roche. Do we have do play players that have potential but don't perform?

I am terribly vexed...NO ETHIER?!?!?!
ETHIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: gus2327 | July 25, 2008 at 09:18 PM
what an idiot torre is!!!!!!!......benching good young player like ethier in favor of fatso............torre is a senile old coot!!!!!!!!.............then he gets all defensive when the press calls him out on his BS!!!!!!!!
also, dodgers have another rather "mysterious" injury, this time to d. young........dodgers certainly must lead all of baseball this year in having such "mysterious" ailments????

DeWitt has barely hit .200 for going on two months now, with just one extra base hit during that time (last week at Coors Field). This season LaRoche has been given 56 at bats over 26 games. Dude might not be the answer, but don't you think it's worth giving him a fair chance when DeWitt has not just been bad, but terrible for two straight months? LaRoche has hit well at every level, might as well see what we've got.

Give Ethier credit for being patient and just trying to do his job.
But if Eithier doesn't lose it soon and ask to be traded, I'd think he's nuts.
Why do they continue to reward Jones and Pierre PT because of what they theoretically can do instead of rewarding Ethier with what he already does.
I guess they know better, but this stinks for Ethier and Jones is GD loser. At least Pierre works hard and keeps himself in good shape despite his lack of natural talent. Jones just let's his talent go to waste.
Get's harder to support this team when they can't seem to get a GM who has a clue.
Like Ethier, Dodger fans have been bamboozled.
