Let's move the "Think Blue" sign to Houston and set up shop
Because this city is bringing out a hell of a roll with these Dodgers, who racked another win within those confines. This one was a 5-2 clip, featuring more of what we've seen during the time in Texas. Strong pitching, this time from Chad Billingsley, now with a record over .500 after offering up eight frames of dominating stuff. He would have seen all zilches in his score column, had Luis Maza - subbing for an apparently not too in-game injured Jeff Kent - not made an error that left Houston's door slightly ajar. Strong hitting in the form of long balls from Andre Ethier and James Loney. And a box score that would possibly convince Bill Plaschke that the Blue have a concrete concept of what a winning formula makes.
Can the good vibes carry on the Bay Area? Dare to dream, kids. Dare to dream.

Plaschke is right that Scioscia should be the Dodgers' manager, and that the team is fundamentally erratic. I think he's right about Blake Dewitt, who has come farther than anyone would have expected this year. I'd like to see both LaRoche and Dewitt make it and, with Kent unlikely to come back next year, that could happen.
Plaschke is wrong to conclude that the young players won't ever get it - they have ups and downs. Kemp may look bad at the plate sometimes, and his judgment on the bases is inconsistent, but from what I've seen he's played excellent defense in both center and right.
If Nomar can keep it up, things look promising, but his fragility is open to question.

Twerp -
It's nice to see that Bill Plaschke is still grinding his axe against the Dodgers. After all, it has only been...what...ten years or so since the Mike Piazza-Bret Butler "he said/he said" controversy.
Classy guy that Plaschke.
