So whats going on with the 3B rumors? Beltre was mentioned but i heard he has a no trade clause to LA. That leaves us with Casey Blake. If it came down to getting a SS or a 3B right now, i would be more inclined to go for the 3B. Nomar is getting back to his old form (we dont know how long till injured though) so 3B is more of a problem right now. Jack Wilson is not the answer, he can't hit all that well, so why not bring back Hu. Same defense. I know Hu can't hit as well, but why trade for a guy who can't hit much better? Can we put Dewitt or LaRoche on 2B?
There are not too many good names floating around the rumor mill. All of the good players Flanders will mess up and not get em. If you want good consistent talent with teams that are going to shop this years deadline right now go for Joe Nathan at closer or Scot Rolen at 3B, Jason Bay in the OF or Doc Holliday at P. Those are quality guys who are worth trading for in my opinion. Not flashy guys, they just go out and get the job done.
Fuentes in Colorado had one good month in his career and the price is too high for him (They asked the Sox for Buckholtz!), Wilson for Kemp is also steep for an average SS. My prediction is that we are going to get the Orioles crappy closer, and then Wilson and then probably an albatross contract like Vernon Wells and his DL-omania and then miss the playoffs and complete the downward spiral. At least after the potential bad signings Flanders gets fired and we move forward.

This has been brought up before, Martin may be our answer for 3B. We have 3 solid prospect catchers behind him in Ellis, May, and Santana although May has been in a slump of late.
Dodgerupdates is reporting an interest in Texiera. I am not sure why that is a plus since we already have Loney. Sounds like a bad plan to me.
Our challenges are: finding a productive 3B, a healthy shortstop (Nomar is doing fine at the moment), a 2B for next year and beyond, and the outfield.
The problem in the outfield is Torre insists on giving max playing time to Jones and Pierre and takes playing time away from our best outfielders Kemp and Ethier. (This one drives me nuts!)
I am losing my faith in Colletti. I just hope he does not do anything stupid at the trade deadline. I will be a Dodger fan long after he stops receiving Dodger paychecks!

Kevin Baxter's article in the Times is classic stupidity. "The Dodgers miss Pierre's speed at the top of the lineup". Idiotic. Kevin, the Dodgers are also reaping the benefit of having someone at the top of the lineup, Kemp, who is actually productive. Pierre is a professional out maker. Kemps OBP in the leadoff spot is 71 points higher than Pierres. 71 points. Plus, he actually gets extra base hits. Can the LA Times please hire a baseball writer who actually lives in the real world and understands the sport?

patricia- its fans like you that are ruining sports...the dodger way is to raise kids from the farm, and bring them up together. this creates a TEAM. the way NOT to do it is to buy "franchise players" as you say. this is what causes individuals to be more important than the team. i would rather have a bunch of no names who play together, than a few franchise individuals who play for the name on the back of the jersey
you have no patience and have the exact attitude that sums up sports. the dodgers used to raise players the old fashioned way... through the famr...now they are finally doing it again and you say we cant wait 3-5 years.....why not? if you dont have the patience then go follow the angels or yankees or something.
ps you will be waiting more than 3-5 years if the idiots who are running the team now continue to do what they are doing! it just isnt working... i know fans would be patient if they knew we had a direction (i hate to say it but look at tampa bay and florida)
