I understand that JJ is pitching well and it's only the 5th, but the Dodgers have been nipping away. Why not send up a pinch hitter and try to pick up that run? Especially right after you see that AZ lost.
I think it was Torre trying to preserve the pen. There's no Thursday off day, Kuo wasn't available and they've been cautious with Wade (shoulder) lately. If JJ could keep going, I imagine they wanted to roll with it.
Bombs away tonight. Los Dodgers matched the big boppers on Philly shot for shot. Kent is hitting like Barry Bonds is behind him in the order. Nomar has been good the last month when he has been in the lineup. Maybe the team is starting to find their rhythm and identity after the Manny trade. The bullpen lost a few games over the weekend but have been great the last two nights.
I saw that too, just from a different source.
From Jon Heyman, SI.com:
Monday 8/11: "Previous rumors have Lucchino going to Toronto, but the Frank McCourt-owned Dodgers are a more logical landing spot. While Lucchino has a history of uneasy relationships with top baseball people he has employed (Randy Smith and Josh Byrnes are two of many examples), McCourt doesn't seem to mind a little front-office friction. Plus his obsession for all things Red Sox borders on a fetish; he has already acquired or hired a dugout full of former Red Sox, including Ramirez, Nomar Garciaparra, Derek Lowe, Grady Little and Bill Mueller, not to mention longtime Lucchino associate Charles Steinberg, a top PR man for Lucchino in San Diego and Boston who was supposedly paid the extraordinary annual salary of $1 million per year to make things seem better in L.A.
And McCourt and Lucchino already have common ground: They are both admirers of Ramirez."
Wednesday, 8/13: "While many in baseball have heard the speculation, there is one major impediment that could prevent a Lucchino move to the Dodgers, the most logical landing spot. As one baseball person pointed out, "What about the wife?'' Indeed, that is the biggest question regarding the Dodgers. McCourt's wife, Jamie, is the Dodgers' omnipresent club president."
is that a sprained or torn ligament that saito has? cuz i keep reading different things from other sources.
broxton's not a good option at closer. all he has to get batters out is that fastball. he strikes out the average hitters but the good ones foul it off and after a while they catchup to it. last season near the end it flattened out and he got hit bad. my fear is he just doesn't have enough weaponds. kuo is a better fit cuz he's lights out with crazy movement on all his pitches that he throws for strikes. move broxton back to setup and kuo to closer ... thats my two cents.
Kuo's arm/elbow is too brittle to work him the way a "normal" closer would need to be used...I direct you to this article in a small attempt to hopefully change your mind re: Broxton.

Manny Oh Manny! Incredible!
That's why I'm watching the Dodgers again.

Benzo,
I'm guessing your bumper sticker would say: "In case of Rapture...can I have your car?"

DBB - you know me too well....

Can the Dodgers afford to have Penny figure things out in the majors with his 6.00+ ERA? It's not like he was pitching well before his injury.....

I love Nomar.

That damned Joe Torre is lucky Normar homered. What the hell was he thinking pulling Manny from the line-up?
Just think of those 2 blow games in SF and we would be on a 5 game winning streak. I think were going to be rolling.
