Pablo Ozuna out: Blake DeWitt in
I guess someone else will pinch run for Jeff Kent during the eighth or ninth innings. Just got word that Pablo Ozuna has been designated for assignment, with Blake DeWitt reentering the fold. Make sense, considering all plethora of dudes on the DL counting against the 40-man roster space for impending September call up's (and DeWitt was guaranteed to be one), something had to give. Or in the case of Ozuna, someone.
Fare thee well, Pablo. We'll always remember that slide into third.
AK

I stepped out for a few minutes. Are they losing yet?

AK / BK,
With the way the team has been going we are going to need a Live Blog Marathon to get us back into this playoff situation
Those of you in favor say Aye

Thank goodness they finally got rid of Ozuna. He was the reason they were losing.
Can't they DFA WNY? There must be some young man in this great land of ours who can hit better than .120.

This is good news. The way Casey Blake's bat has cooled in the last two weeks, maybe DeWitt could see some playing time there too. Plus, you have got to love his D.
D Backs just finished getting swept by the Padres. The three starting pitchers for the series were Webb, Haren, and Johnson. Their top three got beat by the last place Pads. I know we lost four to the Phillies this weekend, but at least the Phillies are in contention. The Padres barely even have a reason to show up at the park anymore.

So, the storied, legendary Pablo Ozuna era comes to an end. Ahhhh, the memories. Pablo, we hardly knew ye.
Posted by: twerp1 | August 27, 2008 at 03:29 PM
Maybe he can start at 3rd against righties until Blake wakes up
Pads just got 3 in the 7th and 2 in the 8th to beat AZ 5-4, must be nice to have a closer, hopefully the Dodgers can use this as motivation for tonight.

Trevor Hoffman not done yet. He strikes out the side for the save. Maybe he can teach Broxton the changeup.
Amazingly, the Dodgers are still not out of it. A win today and they are just 2 back of the snakes, with 6 games against the sputtering desert dogs in the next 10 days.
Sept. 8 will be soon enough to give up on this team. Or to buy 2009 tickets at 2008 prices !!!. Who are they kidding? Can I specify that none of my money be used to pay Juan Pierre's salary?

TOO MANY BLAKES AT THIRD... BROXTON CONFUSED
Posted by: benzojones | August 27, 2008 at 04:14 PM
Haha... the mediocrity of the NL West is comical! Think about this: The Dodgers could be 1.5 games back with a .500 record by Friday. The DBacks are bending over and letting the Dodgers take the division... and they're not doing it! Come on boys - the time is NOW!
Good to have DeWitt back. Maybe he'll spark the club into first place. I dunno, I gotta believe in SOMETHING at this point.

W(h)itt's on Third.

Broxton need map, like he get at Disneyland.
Broxton like Pirates, and flying elephant with mouse.
Teacups make Broxton dizzy, like after he throw fastball once.

Watching Jeff Kent screw up that play, I suddenly realized why we've been losing. It's simple: Jeff Kent's comments about Vin Scully have angered God. We are all being punished for Kent's lack of judgment.

Every time I watch Chan NO Park pitch, he gives up a home run.
Sure enough, Zimmerman hits one out.
DOWN to the NATIONALS AGAIN!?!!??!

good baserunning by Manny. LOL look he's breathing so hard.
Posted by: Wasabi | August 27, 2008 at 06:34 PM
My frustrations these past two weeks with the Dodgers:
1. Russell Martin looks completely lost at the plate
2. Sure, we're getting lots of hits during the game, but so many times we don't get the runner on until there's 2 outs. That's why we have a crappy RISP%.
3. Oh. yeah. the RISP%. Stop please stop. I'm barely breathing here.
4. All our runs are scored by HRs instead of small ball. This shows that we are pressing at the plate.
5. We keep losing when the DBacks lose...and they keep winning when we win.
...And this is all without Andruw Jones!!

1-11 with RISP tonight. Anyone feel like we've seen this movie before ?
They might be ahead with any semblance of defense in the 3rd inning. They should have turned 2 on Zimmerman's grounder and then somehow they got nobody on a ground ball to the pitcher. I know Maddux has won like 17 gold gloves or something, but where he was throwing that force play attempt is beyond me.
Of course, this is what bad teams do, frankly. They find a new way to lose every night.

Classic Broxton, eh? I really wanted him to assume the role of closer, but what can I say? Tonight - a run down with essentially no pressure, he strikes out the side on 13 pitches.

Nils,
Don't celebrate D'Backs getting sweeped by the Pads, we GOT sweeped by Phils, looks like we gonna get sweeped by the WORST TEAM in Baseball... oh sorry, we might be the worst freakin tream in baseball.. and we'll go into Arizona and either get sweeped there or lose 2 of 3.... it's embarrassing that we're mocking the D'Backs for getting sweeped by the Pads?! ... we definitely have no room to criticize any team... we should just thank the Pads for man-ing up!
Amy,
Yeap, Good old moron Jeff Kent at it again. The guy is another dumb as rocks... the idiot cannot EVER TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS SCREW UPS.... he'll probably make another excuse on his error letting another run score... he'll say, "we were already losing at that point.. that run didn't mean a thing".. F'in moron. I'd really like to see someone just give it to him... he's the type of guy I want to see in the UFC Ring getting his donkey destroyed!... smug moron.

Such strange results. An error and a unearned run by Gold Glover Maddux; Broxton, without the save pressure, looks flawless; 2 saves in a row by former Dodger Joel Hanrahan (see, closers aren't that hard to find).
Return to normalcy--1 for 11 with RISP, losing to a supposedly inferior team. Those of you who were anticipating the big turn around because of a weaker opposition just saw what happens.

Another game over, and the Dodgers are a step closer to their main NL West rival. By this weekend, they should ease past the Rockies.
Posted by: Orel in Ohio | August 27, 2008 at 07:20 PM
How frustrating this is! The Diamondbacks are just holding the door open (with help from the Pads) and saying "go right on through" and our boys in blue say "no, you first." Makes you want to scream!
Posted by: ApaulO | August 27, 2008 at 07:21 PM
I was at the game tonight here are and a couple of thoughts:
Why did we pick up Maddux again?
What was Torre thinking when he sent Kemp?
Why does Kemp continue to make stupid decisions at the plate?
Can Jeff Kent please retire?
Russell Martin has had a terrible second half. Screw his cocky attitude and bench him.
This is over folks. Even if they back in, they'll be done by the first round.
A team with no heart. An ownership without a soul. And a general manager without a brain.
Priceless.
