When do those old-school Maddux socks go on sale?
PROGRAMMING NOTE: Join us for Purple, Gold, and Blue at 11 am, where our guests will be Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports... and whomever else we can wrangle up. Click the show widget on the side of the page, or go straight to the show window. See you then.
One encouraging sign for the Dodgers over the last 10 games is that even those they lost were close and should have been won. They haven't been blown out... a point driven home by Tuesday night's 8-3 loss to Colorado, in which the Rockies blew open a 4-3 game with a four-run eighth to take a commanding lead, victimizing an ineffective Dodger pen, and a particularly ineffective Hong-Chih Kuo, who faced only three batters, walking two and allowing a homer to Ian Stewart. On the other hand, it's not like the Dodgers were without chances. They had 11 hits, including five doubles, but left nine on base including seven in scoring position. The last threat came in their half of the seventh, when with the bases loaded and two out, Russell Martin flew out to right on the first pitch he saw from Colorado reliever Manny Corpas. It wasn't a great night either for Hiroki Kuroda, who struggled early and left the game having surrendered four runs over six innings.
In summary: Tough night for the pen, tough night for the sticks, tough night for the starter, tough night in the standings. Can Greg Maddux fix all that? We joke, of course, but the hope is that the 42 year old future HOFer can stabilize the end of the rotation as he begins his second stint in Dodger Blue Friday in Philly. The Padres will receive two prospects (or cash, but they'll take the players, Pads GM Kevin Towers said) from a list of five, none of whom appear on the current 40 man roster.
Of course, it isn't simply his pitching the Dodgers want, but the
gaggle of information in Maddux's brain,
and his willingness to share
it with the rest of the gang. It worked the first time. In what could be his last shot at the playoffs, certainly Maddux hopes it works again. Most people think it can't hurt to have him around, but some wonder how much it'll help.
The Dodgers are likely done reshaping the roster, despite some concern about the pen.
Peace seems to be restored in JeffKentHatesVinGate, but now Kent is making fun of bloggers? Okay, now we're mad.
TONIGHT'S GAME: Colorado "ace" Jeff Francis has been anything but this season. He'll take the hill for the Rockies against Chad Billingsley for LA.

WHOA! You guys are getting Little Kenny away from his weekly Wednesday Yankees/Red Sox FanBoy meeting at the Pawtucket Chuck E. Cheese to appear on today's show? I'm expecting some hard hitting questions towards Little Kenny regarding his obvious attempts to bash the Dodgers at every opportunity he has.
Tell Kenny he will get his choice of extra video game tokens or more time in the fun-ball tank if he gives us an honest answer, please.

DBB-
Maybe we should let you do the interview? Could be more fun (haha).

BK,
Thanks for your suggestion, but I have a feeling that there would be locals out there in the Internets with torches and pitchforks if I should comandeer your show.
Seriously, I love the off the cuff banter and witty repartee that you and AK have on the show, and I listen in every week. But please tell AK that he has my permission to tell that anti-West Coast, Dodger-hating Kenny to "Go home and get his frakking shinebox..."

Arrrggghh! Little Kenny is such a smug, self-admiring Dodgers hater, this is painful listening! Can you guys get Kenny to committ to appear on the show again after the Dodgers make the playoffs this season, please?

So, when are we doing one of these live blog things again? We would've had plenty to talk about last night...

So... we can assume that Kent reads this Blog....
If so...
"Mr. Kent, I don't like you. Please take your sourpuss mentality to the DL so the Dodgers can win this thing."
