355
The San Francisco Giants aren't the Chicago Cubs or the Philadelphia Phillies, but that's a discussion for a different night. For now, praise Greg Maddux for career win 355, which came in LA's 2-1 win Saturday night, putting him one ahead of Roger Clemens on the all-time list. There are many baseball fans, I'm sure, who are happy to see him move a spot in front of the Rocket. As for the game, Maddux was outstanding, throwing six innings of two hit, one run ball, needing only 47 pitches (38 of which were strikes) to get it done.
Rafael Furcal had two hits in four at bats, Blake DeWitt was 3-4 with two RBIs, including a solo homer in the third and a tie breaking single in the seventh.
The Blue finish the regular season Sunday against the Giants, but still don't know who they'll play in the first round of the playoffs. The Mets will send Oliver Perez to the mound against Florida's Scott Olsen, while in Milwaukee, CC Sabathia will face Chicago's Angel Guzman, inserted into the rotation for a resting Carlos Zambrano. If both New York and the Brewers win, there will be a one game playoff Monday to determine the Wild Card qualifier.

Props to Maddux. His coaching career is going to be first-rate.
It'd be kinda cool if he could just focus on that right now.

AK/BK,
I'm sure you've heard that Nomar is managing the last game right? Do you know if players can act as first/third base coaches. I guess you wouldn't really want that would you? Although, it would be fun to see, I still want to beat the Giants.

Everyone says Manny signing is a bad deal I disagree. The Dodgers make bazillions and could make more. Look what Steinbrenner did in NY. If we get 1 or 2 good years and have to eat the rest I would not cry. What if it meant 2 world Series. Could signing him produce any WORSE results than the last 20 years?

Good for Greg, but as a Dodger fan.... more of those 355 have come against the Dodgers than for them.
Why oh why do I get the feeling Kent will be starting in the playoffs........

I think starting Kershaw in game four with Maddux being the first reliever is a reasonably option. If Kershaw goes six innings then go to the pen, but don't hesitate to go to maddux if/when Kershaw gets in a jam.
I think all of the players getting healthy is a great problem for Torre to have. Gives us great bats off the bench as well as multiple options for double switches, etc. Hard to see Dewitt not getting most of the playing time at 2B the way he has played of late. I believe Nomar is best left as a pinch hitter b/c of his lack of range at shortstop. Berroa has earned SS, with Furcal hopefully getting some opportunities. GO Dodgers!

JxR-
Yeah, I don't think they'll coach (though I have no idea if that's legal or not, so to speak) because it's a safety issue, both for the guys in the coaching box, where balls can come very quickly, but also for guys running the bases. If a coach makes a mistake waving someone in or stopping a player suddenly (just to name a couple examples) that guy could get hurt.

BK,
Yeah, I didn't think about that. Thanks.
