Lift your heads and admire the azure blue Dodgers sky high above...
Today is a glorious day in SoCal. Dodgers Nation looks to be one step closer to a possible Freeway World Series today.
With this said, how can any True Blue fan actually be rooting for the Cards to beat the Snakes this afternoon?
I want AZ to win today !!! I want the Dbacks to win their game, and gather 'round the TV to watch the Blue Crew party hardy tonight!
Tonight is Fan Appreciation Night at Chavez Ravine. What could be better than beating Peavy to clinch the NL West? The final regular season home game SHOULD feature the stars of the squad...not the bench players (with all due respect to the bench mob).
Besides, the beer and champagne would taste SO MUCH sweeter if it was sprayed around after a victory! Could the team really enjoy the "celebration" of winning the division IF they lose to Peavy tonight?
How hollow would that be? Who wants to "celebrate" anything IF the team loses the last home game to SD?
IF the team wants to rest the starters, they can always do that during the final 3 games up north, with the pressure off against the Giants.
P&GR, I agree with you, but at the same time, I have really been hoping the Blue would have clinched by the time they get to SF. A snakes win and a Blue loss would leave that door open slightly.
There's no such things as backing in. Even if the Snakes lose this afternoon, the Dodgers deserve the division. I say let the starters play a few innings and then come out to applause, if that's the way it has to be.
There are six guys in the Snakes' starting lineup today with more than 100 Ks, including Mark Reynolds (who notched No. 200 today), Chris Young (163) and Dunn (160). Upton has 117 in only 343 ABs, and Chris Snyder 100 in 330 ABs. What do they need air-conditioning for in Phoenix?
I thought I wanted Arizona to win today as well but I've changed my mind. There are just too many bad things that could happen in San Francisco. Let's just get it over with however possible. Hopefully we'll be celebrating bigger things in the coming weeks anyway.
Considering the FACT that the Blue Crew has earned only ONE playoff game victory since that magical 1988 season, I agree that caution is the order of the day.
With this in mind...let's say the D-backs win this afternoon AND the Dodgers lose their last home game tonight. I would still argue, advantage Dodgers, as they head up north to face SF.
The Dodgers have played well recently against the Giants on their field, and they will NOT be facing T. Lincecum all 3 games. Plus, you have to believe that the Blue Crew wants a measure of revenge for losing 2 of 3 to SF this past home stand. If they don't clinch the NL West in front of their home fans tonight, don't you think they would LOVE to celebrate the victory in front of the Giants players and fans?
And how sweet would it be for Kent to make an appearance in SF as a member of the Dodgers if they clinch the division up there?
I have every confidence that the Dodgers will SLAM shut the door on AZ, while kicking open the door to their own post season appearance as NL West Division Champs!
People are already discussing who Los Angeles might match up the best against. I would suggest that THAT question could be turned around: Is there a NL playoff team this season that has an overwhelming across-the-board advantage against the Dodgers?
I would suggest not. The team that's hot and plays well down the stretch has the advantage. Not only does the Dodgers' pitching staff feature the lowest ERA this regular season, guess which team has earned the best record since August 1st.?
Bottom line: The other NL playoff teams had better not underestimate these Los Angeles Dodgers.
The DBacks are laying down and rolling over. What a shame! I'm thinking party time at the Ravine tonight from the minute they open the gates! GO BLUE!!
Not with a bang, but a whimper. I'm disappointed the d'backs didn't put up more of a fight. Truly the Dodgers could have won this division with a .500 record.
Time to see how much we can get out of Furcal, Kent, Pierre, Stults, Proctor, Kuo, Elbert, and Ardoin.
Nomar, Russell, Manny, and Ethier should all sit after the first time through the lineup. There might even be a Sweeney witnessing in the field tonight.
How's this for a lineup on Friday:
Pierre CF
Young LF
Repko RF
Sweeney 1B
AJ Ellis C
Ozuna 3B
Hu SS
Maza 2B
Ya!!! Congratulations, Dodgers. This is a great relief. It's been a tough season. Shoot, a tough 2 seasons. Wait. 20 seasons...As Vin would say, it's on to Chicago!

Whoever is in LF for the Cards is the only thing keeping the snakes in this game.

It's over. 10-3 in the 7th, time to ice the champagne. I'm already well on my way there! Yahhoooooooo!!!

It's looking mighty good right now.... bottom of the 7th and the Cards lead 10-3. As long as the Cards' pen don't give up anything too crazy....
Looks like Peavy won't be able to be a Dodger spoiler in the way he wanted to.....

5 Cardinal runs in the 7th.
Doesn't look like you'll get your wish P & G R.

I sort of agree with you, but I don't want Peavy to get that feeling that he accomplished something
Posted by: EricG | September 25, 2008 at 02:01 PM
10-3 Cards in the bottom of the 8th. I don't know if a rally cap will do it for the Snakes. This may require a rally ten gallon hat.

Don’t think I’ll be heading to the Ravine tonight! I went to the game after we clinched in 04 (Finley GS) and that was the pretty tedious! All AAA’ers
Posted by: onword47 | September 25, 2008 at 02:14 PM
Has any one noticed the Cardinals LOB for the game is 29? LaRue had 9 LOB all by himself.
Posted by: Rick | September 25, 2008 at 02:23 PM
do we have to rehash the LOB logic again... we need to create a web page.
Posted by: benzo jones | September 25, 2008 at 02:26 PM
The D-Backs are going to need some serious rally caps.
