During the fourth inning, Nomar was rounding third on Pablo Ozuna's single to right, got held up, and the sudden stop led to some left knee buckling. James Loney takes over. We'll let you know if you hear anything new.
Nice move pulling Proctor when, for once, he was lights out. Torre must think we've already made the postseason. Hope he figures out that he can't make any more dumb decisions until AFTER we've clinched.
okay this is getting absolutely ridiculous. 6 runs!!!! Someone please tell me why Proctor was pulled damnit! We've only gone through 3 pitchers without getting one freaking out since he was pulled.
Not that I'm a big fan of Scott, but my gosh he was on tonight. 5 straight with 3 strikeouts. Did he get hurt??? He must have. That can be the only explanation to this lunacy!
TORRE IS DISGUSTING TO ME... "The talent carries JOE TORRE, JOE TORRE doesn't carry the TALENT".... Derek Jeter was the real glue to that Yankees team. Come to think about it, Jeter was the real coach of that team. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE???... This is disturbing how this guy manages the game. I can't believe am still watching this 8-15 beat down. PLEASE, the one that needs to be replaced and it wont happend, is JOE TORRE.
... and another thing. Why in the world didn't joe torre take out that kid in the 7th when he walked the first batter to first?? it was still tied at 7-7... THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG NIGHT FOR ME FOLKS...
Guys, guys, calm down - it's only one game - a throw-away game now - 3 out of 4 will still be fine. Keep in mind how TERRIBLE these Pirates are - right AK and BK ????
No games are throwaways, but the team is going to lose sometimes. Sometimes guys aren't going to pitch well, or get that big hit, or the manager won't hit the right button. It's not like they quit after the third inning or whatever. They just lost. It happens.
Great. That sure looked like a slump-starter to me. Maybe the D-backs will fall apart when they get out on the road this weekend and the Dodgers can hang on anyway.
"No games are throwaways"?
The Dodgers better hope you're wrong, BK.
They have to throw away this one, turn the page, and chalk it up to a bad night.
I sure hope you're wrong.
I disagree. 3.5 games is actually a pretty nice amount of breathing room with 10 games left. Enough to pack it in and start printing postseason tickets? Obviously not. Did you think they'd win every game until now and the 28th?
You never want to lose to a team like Pittsburgh, but with a win tomorrow they leave taking three of four. Hard to complain. Win each series and nobody will catch them.
As for tonight's game, yeah, eight two out runs is kinda ridiculous, and I might have handled the inning differently (here I'm likely getting into, at the very least, the complaints of other readers), but in the end guys have to pitch and throw. Could Proctor have stayed in? Sure, and I think managers can get obsessed with the righty/righty, lefty/lefty thing, but on the other hand McLouth's numbers (power wise, at least) are better against righties, and two of the next three hitters were left handed, setting Elbert up well for the next inning.
My point? It's not absurd managing. The inning got away from them, and they lost the game. Again, it happens.
I misunderstood your meaning. I thought you meant "throwaway" in the sense that the Blue (or Torre, or whatever), just kicked this game aside like it didn't matter.
By your definition, I totally agree. Toss this one out, and come back to play tomorrow. It's not a crisis.
Unless there was an injury that I don't know about, this game was lost through a bizarre combination of over-and under-managing. Why Pull Proctor with two out and nobody on, when he had been pitching so well. And then once the match-up move failed, why keep in Elbert, the most untested guy in the pen (except McDonald) to pitch to a switch-hitter. And then let him stay in for two more batters? The hook was too quick for Proctor, but not quick enough for Elbert. Yes, the Dodgers are going to lose some, and they've done remarkably well when it's really mattered the last two weeks, but why squander any game with bad managing?
I'm with you, BK -
Like I said - and you reiterated - 3 out of 4 will be fine.
The Dodgers were not going to go undefeated the rest of the way. With SF, SD, and SF to finish, the Dodgers are in great shape.

Too bad those Losers up north had to give away the early 3-0 lead to those Dirty Snakes.....
I don't know about the rest of you, but I really didn't think we were going to win every game for the rest of the year. And I would rather lose a game this way than blow a lead going into the bottom of the ninth. So we can jump on Torre for his' bad pitching decisions' today, but we did score 8 runs which would win 95% of the games. And lets look at those lineup decisions--Subs Nomar and Ozuna had 5 hits. Kemp sits out one game and comes back with 4 hits. Yikes even SWny had a hit. Martin 3 hits as leadoff hitter.
So lets see if we can take 3 of 4 and 7 of ten on the trip.

I'm not watching, but wtf! Why was Proctor pulled. 5 straight outs and then pull him. And then promptly give up 4 runs with 2 outs.
I'm about ready to break something!
Posted by: Dodger Dog | September 17, 2008 at 06:49 PM
Make that 5 effin runs with 2 outs. And again why why was Proctor pulled?????? I thought it was a bad move when it happened. Now I'm just pissed

Great means more Dp's and useless outs and errors by James Floney

Okay this is funny now. Now that I've broken everything in my office, and after 8 runs. WOW, eight runs with 2 outs. Is that a record?
Nice move Torre.
Brilliant
Um, why was Proctor pulled? Anybody?
Posted by: Dodger Dog | September 17, 2008 at 07:00 PM
I'm no big Proctor fan either, but when a guy's breezing through the order, you don't pull him for an unproven (if talented) rookie.

To add insult to injury, Brandon Webb just doubled in two runs with 2 outs to tie it. Dayamm

D-backs beating up on San Fran, so I guess it's 3.5 games now. Way to go Torre.

It's the third game they've lost in their last 17. Let's try to keep some perspective.

We have perspective BK, we are now 3.5 games up in a pennant race.
That is not much breathing room honestly, and it was the way they lost this game that pisses me off. Those 8 runs should have never happened.

Perfect game for them to lose... I'm blacked out.
I am infinitely more interested in the Beimel being racially stereotyped storyline.
