Well, you won't have Torre and Honeycutt to kick around anymore

Nope.  If the Blue lose today, blame falls squarely on the shoulders of manager Nomar Garciaparra, bench coach Mark Sweeney, and pitching coach Tanyon Sturtze.  Those three will be running the show Sunday in San Francisco, as Joe Torre and Co. take in a guided tours of Alcatraz before a quick jaunt to wine country.

Okay, I made up the last part, but the players will in fact be pulling the strings (with oversight, I would imagine), including pre and post game media.  Their first act: Giving AJ Ellis his first Major League start.  Should be a fun break for everyone before the postseason kicks off.  It's been 228 days since the start of Spring Training (thanks to Dodgers PR for that number). A little levity can't hurt.

Too bad Philly doesn't have to win today as it allows them to save Hammels for Game 1. I was hoping we'd end up with the Mets, but that obviously hasn't worked out.

I think this situation of having so many question marks about who to put on the post season roster is really unusual. The emergence of Furcal and Kent playing certainly complicates things. It's quite a risk to carry both of them plus Nomar on the post season roster given how fragile they all are.

Personally, if Furcal is reasonably close to 100%, I would play him. Berroa has been great, but Furcal is the better player by a long shot - if, as I say, he is reasonably healthy. On the other hand, I would start DeWitt and leave Kent on the bench. Kent's range is limited even when he's 100% and he's certainly not that. Plus, base running is an issue. Can he score from 2nd on a hit ? How about from 3rd on a medium deep fly ? If not, I don't think he can start.

For position players I would go with Martin, Ardoin, Loney, DeWitt, Furcal, Blake, Nomar, Berroa, Kent, Manny, Kemp, Ethier, JP and DY. No Swn. No Ozuna.

For pitchers, I think the toughest thing is who does he use as a closer ? I'm glad Saito got a save last night, but it was a meaningless game and he hasn't had to save a meaningful one for awhile. Every time I read any of his comments, I wonder about his confidence right now. When he's right, I'd rather have him close than Broxton, but is he right ? Of course, I am really just hopeful they get in a position where they need to make a decision - meaning I hope they get a lead late in the game in the first place. No sure thing. At any rate, I'm glad we have Wade, Broxton and Saito available for late inning work. I'd also keep Maddux, Biemel, Kuo and Park in addition to the 4 starters. If Kuo can't go, I'd probably go with Proctor though I'm tempted by McDonald. This guy looks sharp.

Lets hope Nomar doesn't hurt anything if he has to go out and argue a call.

I'm kinda digging this tradition... too bad I can't watch the game. MLB has SCREWED ME again.
