Redeem Team
Thursday's NLDS series between the Dodgers and Phillies may provide
some quarter-century nostalgia material, but for many a Dodger fan, the series is about making up for lost time. Against the Cubs (whom Ozzie Guillen also has no sympathy towards), the step was winning a second (or more) playoff game since 1988. That goal now leaped, the notion of '88 being the most recent title year is feeling a little too far in the distance. It's a feeling that Raffy Furcal can relate to. After all, this is a guy who dealt with such a bad back injury that he temporarily declared himself shelved after four and a half months of rehabilitative efforts. Thankfully, his spirit (along with his body) eventually came around, and Furcal is now able to provide what's often a game-changing spark.
But it's not just time being made up for. Redemptive acts for
individual careers are in the hopeful works during this series. The
Dodgers' unquestioned star, Manny Ramirez, would like to reestablish
both his worth on the open market (those non-stop homers haven't hurt) and his character as a decent clubhouse guy. After a regrettable drinking incident during the 2006 NLDS in New York, Joe Beimel is hoping to both toss his first playoff pitch and do his team right the second time around.
Finally, you got Nomar Garciaparra and Jeff Kent looking to fix the "no
jewelry" blemish on either respective fine career, even if they're doing it in a second choice role.
Joe Torre has opted not to name an "official" closer these days, allowing the two candidates (Takashi Saito and Jonathon Broxton) to remain at the ready as contests inch closer towards the end. Of course, a little ambiguity isn't always a bad thing. Look at Derek Lowe. He's been pitching in the team's "#1" role, but keeps referring to Chad Billingsley as the team's true ace. Then again, it can be nice when matters are set in stone. For example, it would make Joe Torre's decisions a lot easier if he knew for sure how well Hong-Chih Kuo's left wing is feeling.

During the NBA finals this year I posted as Lakers_Unstoppable.
If Stern hadn't rigged things to revive a pathetic franchise (why, why? No one cares about Boston!) the Lakers would've trounced the Pathetics in 4!
But I sense no meddling in MLB. The best team will win.
And the best team? THE DODGERS!
Who else right now is as hot? Who else has the pitching and hitting?
We have what it takes right now to whip any of the other 3 teams remaining.
I like our chances. I feel like that right now, if they keep this up, that the Dodgers are truly unstoppable.

Im looking forward to a great series! Phils vs Dodgers two old time NL Teams set to battle. Philly loves Lasorda and there is some playoff history between the teams. Should be great.
Go Phils!

Did Lowe do anything different today to account for the lengthy rest? Historically, he's been sub-par after longer rests, so I am just wondering if that's been addressed at all.

If MLB did anything to "fix" the WS winner, we can rest assured our Dodgers would at least make it to the World Series! What does America want to see?? Dodgers vs Red Sox!!
Manny vs Red Sox
Nobody wants to see Philly or Tampa Bay... even people in Tampa Bay want Dodgers vs Red Sox... Even SF Giants fans gotta be rooting Dodgers to the Ship!

I was initially concerned about the lay off by sweeping the cubs, but it looks like all 4 teams are going to be well rested, so it kinda evens the bar for us. Can't wait for pennant!

haha Dodgers_unstoppable were you saying that after we sept you in 4 in philly? Don't think so. It was Dodgers_crawlingintothefetalposition. This will be a good series. Hope the layoff hurts Lowe becuase I believe it will help Hamels. Phils lefty hitting vs Dodgers righty pitching means a Phils win! Oh and we've got Broxton's number this year. We did well against him. Don't think you can throw that smoke by Howard becuase it'll be in the Pacific Ocean when we get back to Chavez ravine. Make sure you get there in time for the fireworks and don't show up late like usual Dodger Fans! GO PHILS!!

Dodgers are playing in the NLCS after just murdering Chicago, and the Lakers/Clippers make the top sports headlines in the LA Times. Los Angeles, you are just too funny!
I hope the Phils sweep the Dodgers right outta the post season so LA can keep on forgetting about the boys in Blue.
Go Philly! Kick'em in the Blue Balls.

Last time i check the Phils have lost the most games of any sporting franchise of any sport in history. 10,000 losses you guys hit last year was it? keep reaching for the sky phils fans... Once you are out of your sandbox your lefty bats wont do diddly poo in chavez ravine. Sure glad you guys are excited about the series, but don't get your hopes up... the dodgers love being the underdog. It should be a good series.

Don't think the Phillies have his number just because they might have done well against him in a game or two. Anyone who has watched the Dodgers at all this year knows there are two Broxtons. The unhittable one you saw against the Cubs and the guy who might give up hits to the first 5 hitters he faces. It all depends which day you catch him on.
