Teixeira now a Yankee: The seemingly improbable collides with the 'shoulda seen it coming a mile away'
Because really, why would the Yankees duck out on the chance to dump more cash in a plum free
agent's lap? Isn't such an M.O. their sole purpose for existing? Seems to be, as ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting that the pinstriped bullies, not even commonly mentioned among Teixeira's frequent suitors, have beaten out the Red Sox and Nationals to land the first baseman's services.
No word yet as to whether the 400 mil+ newly invested in three players alone (Teix, CC, A.J.) will put the kibosh on "25 Cents Night" at Yankee Stadium.
Like I said, this is news that both feels out of nowhere and laughably anti-climactic, depending on how you look at it. Where the hot stove dominoes fall from here remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure: When the Angels pulled out of the Teixeira sweepstakes, many -- like our own BK -- felt Arte Moreno might make a splash by scooping up Manny from under the Dodgers' nose (an opinion I don't share because the Angels have too many OF-DH options as it is and I can't picture Ramirez fitting Scioscia's bill, particularly in an AL-friendly long-term deal that gives Manny the license to be Manny). But I think we can all agree that no matter what the future holds, the Saux won't look to erase any sting felt from Teixeira by outbidding the league to bring Man Ram back into the fold. Stranger things have literally NEVER happened.
I think it's also safe to assume, unless the Steinbrenner family name is actually "Brewster," that Derek Lowe won't be added to the roster. Yes, we are talking about the Yankees, but a joke is a joke. Right?
Right?

They really didn't learn anything from the Rays, did they?

Uh-oh...so it looks like the Dodgers' bastard children from Orange County will now be backing up the Brink's armored to the ManRam residence...we knew it was gonna get ugly...

This should set Manny's contract at 75 million for 3 years.
That average of 25 million a year is more than Teixeira would get per year. And Manny deserves to get paid more than Teixeira on a yearly bases.
But Teixeira is younger so Manny can't expect a contract of length.
The fair deal is 75 million for 3 years.
The Dodgers have to make the offer. The Dodgers can't go an extra year. This has to be a take it or leave it situation.
Will the Angels go for 4 years at 25 million a year? If that's the case it's because of the DL rule. Being a NL team, it doesn't make sense for the Dodgers to go 4 years.
The 25 million a year is more than anyone is going to offer Manny. The Dodgers need to quit messing around and just make the 3 year offer at 75 million.

The Angels told the truth when they said they have too many outfielders. The only way Manny goes to the Angels is as a DL.

I'm glad the Yankees signed Teixeira because that leaves Boston out in the cold. If Teixeira had signed with Boston then Manny could have been on his way to the Yankees.

So, Teixeira will average 22.5 million a year.
Yeah, the only fair thing for the Dodgers to do is offer 25 million a year.

Oh, and by the way, Boras got his butt whopped, again.
Now it's time for him to be reasonable with Dodgers and Manny.
All that talk about Teixeira getting 200 million. Yeah, right!

I still do not think Manny will come cheap. If that's a possiblity, the Mets will bid against the Dodgers . The Mets will want their own marque name and power bat given who the Yankees are signing.

Wow. Just WOW! The Yankees, or Bankees as I have seen them called, are spending the money. I guess they feel like the law of big numbers will bring a Championship back to them at some point if they keep spending like crazy.
Now bring on Manny. Three years, just a smidge more $$$ than Tex a year and you should be able to start ordering the dreads caps again. Then go get The Big Unit. Randy can win games and reach milestones with the Dodgers, that's a win-win.
Geaux Blue! Still can't believe it...CC and Tex are both in pinstripes. Wow.
Merry Christmas!

That Yankee's team is getting Scarier than Paris Hilton's Theseus on the rehabilitation of sharks with lasers on their heads.

At first I thought the Tex signing by the Yanks was good for us since Angels already said they wouldn't go after Manny and the Yanks already spent so much... then...
what if the CRAZY Yanks go and sign Manny too??!!! Not so crazy??!! Having Arod, Jeter, Manny, and Tex would definitely match up w/ the Yankees of old... it could happen.
Yankees fan got a great Christmas gift for the new stadium 2009 season.... hope you owner isn't like ours... if McCourt signed all those players I think we will have to pay $$$ to use the urinals... the Dodgers might also have a toll to enter each level so that the cheap seats Top Deck would actually pay so much in tolls that the end cost is similar to Reserve.... and you pay $5 each way if you want to take the escalator from Loge to Reserve.

Gotta love the 'cash war' in MLB these days...While the economy tanks, folks lose jobs, cost cutting at all large corporations across the USA, the Yankees sign this Texiera fellow for 160 Mil over eight years....
When is enough, enough??
My hope is that MLB and it's economy do the next 'tanking'....
I'd love to see the players, agents, owners,et al. squirm in their collective pants and bank accounts...
F..k em all, I will never attend another game.....
